Kazrog 252 EQ with AGC - I REALLY like it

I just started using the Kazrog 252 EQ and I REALLY like it. Don't know what it is exactly but I guess it's a combination of the restrictive concept, the sound & the automatic gain compensation (never knew this was a thing with EQs but it's amazing).
It's just a joy to use. Even pushing it yields beautiful results, nothing harsh, boomy or boxy. There might be the risk of overEQing stuff because everything sounds so good but I can see myself using this as a channel AND mastering EQ.
Have you tried it yet? What do you think about the automatic gain compensation in an EQ? Because I can't really see any drawbacks.... I tried... but I don't see any.

It’s a model of this

I don’t like automatic gain compensation for anything, ever. The way many plugins respond is very much dependent on the input level coming into them. I shape my plugins’ response with gainstaging from the plugins in front of them, particularly the way tape emulation responds to preamp and EQ plugins before them. Perhaps I’ll coax some extra tape saturation in a particular range by pushing an EQ band up. AGC defeats that completely. So I avoid any plugin with automatic gain compensation that can’t be turned off.

it's the only Kazrog plugin i don't have, but for AU$30 i might be tempted during silly season.
I use the EQ on the Avalon a bit, for a non surgical fixed frequency EQ. So silky.
The Avalon VT-747SP bands... 15, 125, 500, 2k, 5k and 32k.
the TRUE 252's bands... 50, 130, 320, 800, 2k, 5k, 12.5k
researching out loud.
When the 252 was released i just thought oh not another EQ, believe me i own a few.
but for 30 bucks (probably 20 bucks in US) i might give it a proper look.

I really like AGC on dynamics like saturators or compressors (when it works correctly) it’s so much easier to make judgements while turning a knob. Sure you can always AB after the fact but that’s not the same.jamcat wrote: Tue Nov 21, 2023 8:40 am It’s a model of this

This is the first EQ with AGC for me and as I said I‘m really enjoying the difference. For my workflow there‘s no reason to disable it. I do have other EQs should the need arise however.
An optional AGC would mean another slider and that would be one too many
And so far the AGC seems to be VERY consistent and reliable.
AGC is just one aspect though, the sound is just so smooth and never piercing or harsh.

Yeah…. I was initally there to download demos for true iron and dynamics and thought - well, okay let‘s try this as well. Ended up purchasing just the EQ.sqigls wrote: Tue Nov 21, 2023 8:51 am When the 252 was released i just thought oh not another EQ, believe me i own a few.

And yes, I admit the 17€ pricetag had something to do with it.

It's really nice. The "Motown EQs" were basically variations of this. I rate this up there with a UADx versions (the Hitsville EQs) even though I believe those were modded. This is really an ace EQ.

yeah.... the 800Hz is especially nice.... but all of them are hard to get a bad sound out of
so much so that I'm thinking about the Compressors next... damn you black friday...

I love these types of eq. Wish there was a 500hz. I love to pull 500 out of drums, but I guess I can stick with my API plugins for that.
