Hi. I don't know if someone already asked, but I think I saw some years ago that some synth had a similar functionality to the Synplant 2's genopatch option, so it could recreate any sound you drop into it.

Am I just imagining things? :D

I would be very thankful to know if I remember that correctly.

Cheers,
Lesha

Maybe you're thinking of Tone2's Icarus ? You drop a sample into it and it resynthesizes it.

Thanks. I can't remember properly, but that may be it.

Hi, Absynth had mutation function, you take preset as a source and you mutate it to something else
aliasing plugin owner

Image line harmor , or any other decent additive synth .
Eyeball exchanging
Soul calibrating ..frequencies

Thanks everyone. So what would be the best implementation of resynthesis so far?

Serum has an additive engine, so you can actually resynthesize samples, although you need to do additional processing. The reason I bought Icarus2 was exactly for that purpose, because it's far easier and gets better results than Synplant 2 or Serum. I think Synplant 2 is also really good if you want samples converted into a basic synthesizer preset and not wavetables.

You can always transfer wavetables into different wavetable synthesizers, but you can't do that with Synplant 2.

Mutation and randomness is also a great way to get creative results, but that's not what Synplant 2's geopatch is doing. I think it's the first of its kind in terms of new forms of AI resynthesis. It's just that you are limited to basic kinds of sounds.

Thank you, Synplant is interesting and I hope they improve this tech further to make it better for more complex sounds. Icarus is impressive too, I will take another look at it.

Dawesome has said they're going to release Myth in January:

"you can import samples. These are "re-synthesised" to something like a "liquid wavetable". Its not a faithful playback like in a sampler, instead it trys to re-model the sample with a synth engine. Afterwards you have all these funny dials to change the sound

* under the hood there are innovative spectral, physical modelling, wavetable, FM and analog-modelling algorithms ... but its not an either or, its more like all this is brewed to one cohesive magic potion"

I feel like people sometimes miss the point of Synplant’s Genopatch. It’s not supposed to be a faithful recreation of a complex long sample. It’s not an additive engine perfectly analyzing and recreating harmonics. It’s a way to make a relatively simple synth engine automatically approximate sounds as closely as it can. Sometimes it gets really close, sometimes it does really weird stuff. The failures are at least as much fun as the successes.
