Rebirth 338 was the most incredible music production app with 2 TB303 synths, TR808 and TR909 drums, perfectly synchronised to Cubase via ReWire and than shit happened…
Roland decided that this app was way too good representing their old synths that they had no answer to and decided to ban it ReBirth was briefly reborn as iPad app but that was banned by Roland as well
Roland introduced ACB soon after and Roland Cloud was born soon after.
As it is I still have ReBirth 338 running perfectly well on the latest iOS and iPad 12.9 pro.
What I’d love to have, is ReBirth 338 running on my computer as it used to be years ago…
Common Roland, let it be, please…

I found Rebirth pretty annoying from day one. Ok, it was great to have 303 sound in the box, but at the same time, fiddling with step-click-sequencers can cause serious Tennis-fingers. Also I don't like the fact that they 1:1 transfered the ui to the software.... I mean those hardware was built with low costs in mind. It took 3 decades until Arturia finally improved this nonsense. What does this say about humanity? Then Rebirth never was a vst, instead they introduced Rewire. Ok Rewire was helpful, no critics here. Summa summarum Rebirth is extremely outdated and there are maybe 10 better 303 VSTis.

Obviously Roland have their own VST 303 synths, 808 and 909 (circuit modelled) so it wouldn't take a long to throw them in a rack...but I somehow doubt they will listen based on Roland Cloud being what it is...
D16 also make a very good 303, 808 and 909 (and 101) so they could do the same...I guess most people are just doping it in their DAWS now. You can get pretty close in Reason rack top that type of thing as well.

X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Rebirth does hold it's own & given that it's so old much respect for it, Even rating here is 6.9 out of 10-
https://www.acidvoice.com/tb_303_vst_pl ... ftware.htm
Problem with Rebirth is NOT the 303s but the limited nature of the music you can make in it as you certainly don't have to worry about chords, the rewire aspect is the saving grace.
I found Ultrano Dreamer's Musashi Synth to be superior sonically and being Dreamer is patterned after Reason & Rebirth the automation is pretty much like Rebirth & all other workflows similar, plus it's free can also use VST-VSTi & also make it's own Refills-
viewtopic.php?t=603954
But for hardcore Rebirth Fans there is a place where all is available, pretty good site-

I am not much of a fan of mounted CDs just to work Rebirth I found the old 'medicated' version much better does not need CD also there's a Rebirth Portable & a Steinberg Rebirth One Portable out there as well.

Arguable... IMO, there are much better emulations for the 303, the 808 and the 909 out there today.
It used to be fun, back in the days, but, I always felt limited pretty quickly. I also never was a big fan of Acid Techno either, so, that's that.

Everybody has a different 'take' on what is best for 303 I like some that are NOT much like the authentic 303... As far as Acid Techno I hate that crap but I like using 303 type in Jazz & Fusion stuff.
Alotta junk RBS in the old days but some like Peff, JackPlug, Massen & others did real good Rebirth tunes, and real nice Mods too sort of a cult thing back then.
Arguru did a real nice job of a Dual 303 setup in NoiseTrekker 2 (1999-2000) it sounds great & is still in the present-day Protrekkr-

I loved Rebirth back in the days, but I don't think the nostalgia would last longer than one session today.
Reason with 2xABL3 & 2xRedrum and you're (almost) there. Much better choice.

There is no way a corporation is going to let money pass by once they see it and realize they can capture that revenue stream. Or more so, let other companies feast off of their own designs and ideas. So it is very likely a done deal. It isn't coming back.Atlatnesiti wrote: Sat Nov 25, 2023 1:48 pm Rebirth 338 was the most incredible music production app with 2 TB303 synths, TR808 and TR909 drums, perfectly synchronised to Cubase via ReWire and than shit happened…

I'm more surprised it lasted as long as it did. I think kae has the best idea, given your options, in just making a template in Reason with a pair of 303 VSTs and the ReDrums with the 808 and 909 samples. You'll get a sequencer that can play chords too. Plus a boatload of effects.
Not exact, of course, but about as close as can be had today.
BTW -- 'Come on' I think you meant. Common is a different word and meaning. Just fyi.

I think many dabblers back in the day liked not having to learn chords in Rebirth, just figuring out cool sounding riffs with just the right automation. And GIVING CREDIT that Rebirth is what 26 years old it sounds pretty damn good for the age. Sure there are better options nowadays & there had better be by now for sure in this lame-duck developer paradox. Hell my Reason 3 does a much better 303 than Rebirth sure but it's a 2005 release, nothing to brag there, But if you are touting something new in the last 5 years or whatever run through this-that & it is 'better' then all I gotta do is Rebirth Rewire & process THAT through FX & enhancements.

It was good for it's time, but I wouldn't use it now. ABL3, Phoscyon2 and now Arturia have far better 303 emulations with infinitely better sequencer UIs and better FX. We're spoilt for choice for drums too, and many of them way deeper than Rebirth. I do love me some acid squelches even after all these years, but Rebirth is pretty lame compared to what I use now. You'd have to pay me to use it.
I'm a hardware fanboy, but 303 is one area where even I agree that sw beats it hands down in almost every way. Real 303s are a royal PITA to use. Rebirth is a pita compared to modern sw 303s imo. Sometimes nostalgia is just plain wrong.

Propellerhead had their vision with their "studio in the box" concept, but, that concept hasn't aged well, I'm afraid. To keep that concept up to date, you also have to keep the internal devices up to date, and, that didn't happen, neither with Rebirth nor with Reason.
As has been said, for all the Rebirth devices, there are better alternatives now (surprise, surprise, after 25 years...), so.

Yes, newer is better that's the assumption so let's have it. What sounds are you talking about where can I listen? Listening HERE-
https://www.acidvoice.com/tb_303_vst_pl ... ftware.htm
They have Phoscyon 1 & 2 Plus ABL2-3 & also Rebirth - PLAIN Rebirth. By their ratings Rebirth is only 1.1 stars from matching the best which is WAY newer with better FX.
So there must be better than that, throw down & show me then I will respond in kind using Rebirth under Rewire with any FX I may choose then we'll compare. Talk is cheap.
BTW the patterns they are using there are garbage, very difficult to listen to.

I was amazed by the iconic rb-338 when i was amazed by an intel celeron, raveejay and anything that made my go:.
"Whoah i can make music with ... the family's computer? ^^ let me check the internet"
For me its nostalgia 338, maybe for you there is something modern setups lack (sound? ease of use? graphics?), but i really don't see what it is, excuse my ears.
