Maybe the audio demos were mixed that way for demo purposes? And also its spring reverb, springs have a natural "boiiing" sound that is very obvious on most sources.

Hm, I would have been interested, if it wasn't a spring reverb. No interest or use for those at all.

I'd caution that this is a spring reverb that was designed NOT to sound like typical spring reverbs. The AKG engineers were trying to make something that sounded not sh*tty. It's supposed to be more "plate" sounding. So maybe give the free version a demo before writing it off entirely.
