Blofeld is my favorite synth, a plugin version would be a dream. I own one but the outputs are so noisy it’s practically unusable. Largo unfortunately doesn’t do it for me sound wise, even if version 2 is more usable. To my ears the Micro Q emu has a lot of the same magic sound as Blofeld, just way less features.

Curious: What would you say is the main difference sonically? I had both here, and compared them, and hardly noticed a difference. Largo is a bit more bright (no surprise, as the Blofeld always sends audio out of its DAC), but, apart from that...Dalle wrote: Tue Nov 28, 2023 5:21 pm Blofeld is my favorite synth, a plugin version would be a dream. I assume you know about the bass boost option in Largo?

It's the PPG filter I want. Strangely, literally not one single dev has wanted to model it. But if you want a Moog or Sallen-key filter, then holy shit we've got you covered.Syngularity wrote: Tue Nov 28, 2023 4:22 pmLargo 2 is released. The only obvious difference is that Blofeld has different and imo better drive curves. Other than that, I can't really say exactly... I've been trying to convince myself the difference is just in my head, which is still possible. But I simply come up with loads of interesting and useful sounds with Blofeld and Micro Q emu, and never really get there with Largo. Or Nave, another Waldorf that doesn't do it for me. Nothing wrong with them really, just a totally subjective issue I have.chk071 wrote: Tue Nov 28, 2023 5:24 pmDalle wrote: Tue Nov 28, 2023 5:21 pm Blofeld is my favorite synth, a plugin version would be a dream. To me Blofeld just has this amazing, almost physical quality to its sound, it's bright and shiny or so corroded and sharp it will cut you. If you push it over its limits, it doesn't try to stay pretty but will fall apart and break in incredible glitchy ways.
The Micro Q lacks in wavetables and only has one drive type, but does still sound incredible, and is the closest thing to scratching my Blofeld itch. People working on the emulator are doing incredible work and I'd love to see more Waldorf synths in the future.

True. Guess it’s a licensing matter with Wolfgang Palm. However, as he sold his rights to plugin alliance that might make it impossible now.chk071 wrote: Tue Nov 28, 2023 6:15 pm Would have been cool if they added it to Largo with the version 2 upgrade.

I don't think so. The PPG filter made it's debut with the PPG 2.V plugin - which was developed by Wolfram Franke. Wolfgang Palm didn't have anything to do with it, as he left Waldorf about 15 years before the plugin came out.masterhiggins wrote: Tue Nov 28, 2023 8:19 pm True. The smallest one, unfortunately Pentium i3 (next gen or whatever) I could have swore there was a Blofeld VST. Perhaps an alternate universe. I'd still buy Largo if they'd fix it & maybe update it a little. (Meant Komplexer- RIP)

Thanks for the tips, All.chk071 wrote: Mon Nov 27, 2023 12:36 pmAs the installation is so easy, and the plugin is free, just try it out yourself.Borbolactic wrote: Mon Nov 27, 2023 4:28 am Hi guys, I already have the great Osirus installed, and was wondering if it was worth installing Vavra. How might it compare with Osirus? Is it somehow a) 'better', b) 'worse', c) about the same, or would you suggest d) I simply go through with installing it to see for myself? e) None of the above/something else?![]()
What I decided to do after asking is see if there were any videos using Vavra and there were. Frankly, I prefer Osirus' sounds, so I'll stick with it and maybe check the TI when/if it comes out.

By collecting a lot of the patch banks for the MicroQ and using them in Vavra, you actually could end up having a fair number of the Blofeld's factory presets at your disposal - a large percentage of the patches originally loaded into the Blofeld's banks (at least when I bought a Blofeld shortly after its release) were actually transferred over from MicroQ banks.

Please correct me if I should be wrong, but I think the situation here in Europe is this one: It illegal to download an Amiga Kickstart ROM for the use in an Emulator like WinUAE without owning an Amiga. It is also illegal to download the ROM dumps of games unless the copyright holder explictly allows this (Factor5 did this for Turrican for example).
In the video he first downloads the synthesizer ROM and then uses it in an Emulator.
Has Waldorf given their permission to download and use their copyrighted ROMs in the context of an emulator without actually owning the synthesizer?
