I still don't think you understand. Because it shouldn't really require a rule, just a bit of thought on your part.

You come into a thread to suggest something that the OP doesn't want, then get defensive when he further expresses he doesn't want to use it. Further than that you then doubledown and try to convince him of how your way should work for him. But you should have just assumed he has already considered your method of working and it wasn't tenable for him. Then, when that is pointed out, you hurl an immature ad hominem in even more defensiveness. Are you having a rough week or something?

To sum it up, I think the hardware is great, pads are very nice, very tactile, and nice screens, especially in mk3. I really loved the original concept, where it was primarily a drum machine. But, NI has totally jumped the shark with it by trying to force into this convoluted, unergonomic, unintuitive, and inelegant disaster that tries to be more of a DAW and audio interface than a drum machine, so it fails at being both. A common complaint is that NI has promised all kinds of improvements and fixes that never happen and, instead, they just keep trying to cram more expansions down our throat to milk their cash cow. Personally, I wish they’d simplify it and refocus it as more of a rhythm machine and less of a half-assed DAW. But, where’s the profit,… I mean fun…, in that?

Was the Maschine 1 software better in those regards? I don't remember it, it's been so long. I found the downloads available on NI's forum:

I've been all around town, starting with the thought "maybe I'll get a Maschine", and have circled back to "maybe i'll get a Maschine." I've looked at just about every single drum machine product out there both hardware and software.

Much of the drum machines are pretty intensive and menu deep diving which doesn't look fun or fast to get work done. More frustratingly tedious chore. A lot of these devices seem overpriced and/or beyond the scope of what I'm looking to do. Namely just sequence drum patterns and chain them together with a specific set of features (flam, shuffle, etc). I have Cubase for everything else.

I think I understand what you mean about feature creep in the software trying to do too much. But Maschine does seem to tick a lot of boxes still. Hrmmm. I wish the software had a trial as I'd hate to buy this and discover it isn't really what I thought it would be. I've watched a lot of videos but there's something different between watching someone else interact with something and you interacting with the same something.

Have you checked out Spark? I love Maschine but I found the SparkLE hardware to be even more plug n play.

Thank you but whether i want a drum sequencer isn't really a debate to be won or lost. I think you've got too much time on your hands if you imagine it is.

Yes it looks nice. But I don't think it is developed/supported any further. I tried the software awhile back and it wasn't super great, but the hardware device looks interesting. I think Arturia moved on to the BeatStep series..

No hardware here and it's an ancient 11 year old version of the software, but it is still nice to trial it since I don't see a means to trial the current software. Just to get an idea of how the basic software workflow is like in practice. It kind of makes me really want to try a Maschine mk3

It's too bad there isn't a trial version on Native Access for the current Maschine software.

edit: Oh I just found v2.8 on their community support thing. So a lot newer. It really got less accessible and intuitive from the version 1 software. Now it seems more like a mini-Ableton Live than a drum machine. Hmmmm now I don't really want to try a Maschine mk3.

Maybe the Roland TR-8S? Someone said it can be used to control Roland's drum machine plugin knobs but I don't know if it also controls the sequencer.

That said, an MPC or Elektron is probably a better solution.

The Maschine 1 installation is failing for me, I guess because I already have Maschine 2 installed. Too bad, I was hoping to be able to run them side-by-side.

Wave Alchemy Triaz (the native version) looks to be a contender, once it's been released. Should be this year. Although it's gotten awfully quiet on that front.

I can vouch the samples in it are top notch. The sequencer is straight-forward, easy to use. Breaking it free from Kontakt will be even nicer, hopefully that native version will come along soon.

My curiosity got the best of me, so I e-mailed Wave Alchemy. They told me the plugin version is ready and it's only finishing touches now (adjusting presets, marketing stuff, etc.). The release might slip to January though. Anyway, I'm glad it's getting close. I'm certain the plugin version of Triaz will be worth the wait.
