I’ve never bought into this argument that the Rev2 sounds thin or, more specifically, that that’s even a problem. Mine sits right next to my Prophet 6 and OB-6 and I have no problem making it sound as full as them, especially not when you use both layers. More importantly, I rarely have any desire to do that because a good mix usually only has enough room for one or two thick synths and everything else needs to be notched out to make room for it. The Rev2 nails that supporting role.

I really like Dave Smith instruments.
For whatever reason, I don't seem to keep them.
That's probably more a matter of practicality... than a reflection on those synths.
I've got Stage 4 88 and Montage M8x keyboards.
They're more practical for what I do (mostly live)... but I occasionally feel like I'm missing something.

That makes sense. If I was still playing live, I don't think they would be my first choice, either. I'd also have a Stage 4, and probably a Virus TI2 keyboard or Summit.

If I were still playing live, I would definitely have some sort of similar rig for live shows. I’d never take my current instruments out for a show. In all honesty, I’d probably bring a laptop, Komplete and a Kontrol 3.Jim Roseberry wrote: Tue Nov 21, 2023 4:19 pm I really like Dave Smith instruments.

The studio is my world. Instruments like my Prophet 6 and 12 are a crucial part of it. I probably could do it with all software, but I like having the hardware available for when the mood hits. I’ve also never found software that sounds like my hardware synths, at least not entirely.

A few years ago, I was weighing between Novation Peak/Summit and Rev 2, and so I went with the Peak. It can sound very lush, it can sound very vintage, but retains those cold digital oscillators. It can even do wavetables in a limited way. But it doesn't have the curtis filters. For some reason, I put it in the cupboard and forgot about it.
So you also can throw in the Peak/Summit as another that covers similar territory.

Perfect Circuit as well, and have a 10% discount codeJim Roseberry wrote: Tue Nov 21, 2023 1:30 pm I had a Rev 2 for a brief period. To my ears, it sounds pretty thin.
The 3rd Wave's VA sounds massive by comparison.
BTW, Sweetwater has the 3rd Wave module in-stock.

Played her again in store while I wait for my desktop module.
Just sounds so good.
Jumping on her after playing the Nina, she lacked life in comparison, but dialing in circuit drift to around 127 and turning on free running oscillators fixed that up.
Again I made that custom patch with a latched arp, and blissed out
The resonance, and snap of the envelopes, with long release.
Pure ambient city and a good stand in for my old Jupiter 8.
Made some punchy and deep bass tones that still retain tightness and control.
A nice balance of clarity, warmth, punch, and syrupy filters.

Congratulations! Definitely smaller than keyboard version. I am using mine as my main midi controller so I wanted the keyboard.

These are not my videos
Still waiting for mine to arrive, she just shipped today
I went desktop because the price is so much cheaper when shipped here, plus if I'm going to use poly aftertouch I may as well go the deskstop route and use my Hydrasynth or SQ80 to control her.
But you do lose a few dedicated controls for the envelopes, LFO, arp. Not a big deal as you do page a bit even with the keyboard. Plus the Hydrasynth has dedicated Arp controls.
You do gain some oscillator buttons the keyboard version does not have
Playing with the keyboard at the local shop, I found that resonance compensation kills a lot of the squelch and scream with the filter resonance.
A lot of times turning up the resonance with it on, you don't notice much going on.
But with it off it feels more natural and liquidy

Yes, I am glad you have the choice to turn it on or off. I like the 2600 in the way you get the quiet filter at high levels and I like filter compensation for leads.CoolColJ wrote: Thu Nov 30, 2023 2:58 am These are not my videos
