Hello everyone!

I've got a BOSS VE 500 since two/three months, i'm having many problems since i went out of the studio and tryied to use it in a live perfomance. Somehow i think that i'm not using the right parameters in the "input" and "output" sections, since i need to put some levels really high otherwise is impossible to hear my voice during the liveset, but at the same time i can't use a strong volume/level since the mic. goes in feedback very soon.

Unfortunately i didn't find ANYTHING on the internet for understand whats the best setting i can use with my BOSS VE 500 for a live perfomance (of course i know that every gig could be different in terms of space/ sound / dimensions / music genre) but still i would like to have some advices about this trouble: I hear that my voice is in a very low volume, but if i make it higher (from the channel of the audiointerface, or from a parameter in the "menu" setting of the BOSS VE 500) the mic goes in feedback nostop.
Do you think i can solve this problem just by not passing from my audiointerface ( i use Apollo twin X) during a live perfomace and just going with my output directly in the mixer, so that the sound engineer can make the best volume setting ..?
Still i problably need to set my parameters on BOSS VE 500 at the best (for example: i use some strong parameters on the Enhance fx,such as compression very strong and volume, and i need this for making my voice audible, otherwise with the electronic/ hibrid music that i make, is not possible to hear anything outside of the vocals; but i have many doubts about that...always with this trouble of the feedback)

* I was using during the live performances the Apollo twin X - with espansion- for my vocals aswell, because Apollo gives you some very nice plugins like UNISON or TELETRONIX which are very usefull and nice but i ask my self if its a good/bad thing to do for a live perfomance. Of course this kind of setup is well working when we play in the studio, we have the MONITORS connected to the Apollo and no mixer.

If you know about some videos, books, online guide, online forum/groups to help me to understand how the MENU SECTION and the ENHANCE FX of the BOSS VE 500 is working, and how can i set them at the best for my needs, it could be very very useful for me!

Aswell as i need to understand more about the effetcs series, and how it works!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH

How close is your mouth to the mic? The closer the better.

How loud do you sing? The louder the better.

What microphone do you use? Some are much more prone to give feedback than others. The best are super-cardioid mikes, which are mostly sensitive to sound coming directly from the front. I have good experiences with Shure SM-58.

How do you hear yourself? If you're dependant on the main speakers and these are behind you, then that's a recipe for feedback disaster. Better is a monitor speaker in front of you, best is in-ear monitors. With the main speakers positioned at the front of the stage, not at the back.

Settings of the vocal processor: extreme compression will increase the chances of feedback, even sometimes making it totally go out of control. When the input signal is low, the compressor will amplify it, and thus any feedback will be picked up and once it starts it's almost impossible to stop.

Sometimes a parametric or graphical EQ set to dip a bit on some frequencies is enough to get a louder sound out of the speakers with far less chance on feedback. With a graphical 32-band EQ I just set these frequencies 3dB softer: 1 kHz, 2 kHz, 4 kHz & 8 kHz.

It's a matter of using your gear in the best way, and that's a matter of building up experience alas
