Granted, I use Linux. However, most Linux plugins usually also have Windows and Apple versions as well:
* Dragonfly Reverb Suite
* Aether Reverb
* Delay Architect
* Cardinal (Modular, but not just for synths--build nearly any kind of effect you want)
* Guitarix.VST and the GX Plugins Suite
* The Linux Studio Plugins (LSP) Suite
* Dragonfly Reverb Suite
* Aether Reverb
* Delay Architect
* Cardinal (Modular, but not just for synths--build nearly any kind of effect you want)

* The Linux Studio Plugins (LSP) Suite
Vendor‑Dependent Copy Protection: Customers lose. Pirates win.
(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

Same here! All my electric guitar and bass tracks are done with NAM, now. Also, Variety of Sound Thrillseeker series and TesslaPro are gems!

Surge, SuperMassive, VoS are the free ones I find myself using again and again.
If I couldn't afford paid stuff I would go with Analog Obsession, VoS, Valhalla, and some of the high quality free synths like Surge, Vital, etc.

Some really good freebies mentioned already; did we have FerricTDS yet? Supermassive stands out as something that really has no "superior" paid option available.
On the theme of "essentials", though, let's think about boring utilities:
MSED - really nicely designed mid-side utility plugin
MConvolutionEZ is just that. I have fancier convolution plugins but often use this one for its simplicity.
Airwindows monitoring tools SubsOnly/SlewOnly (I think there is now a monitoring suite plugin that combines these?) are a bit unique and can be handy. And I use BitshiftGain as a ballpark trim control on the monitoring chain; the stepped control makes it easier to reproduce a previous setting.

I got a mail from maybe the worst dev with maybe the worst offer
Pay JUST 299 to get a free additional plugin lol
"BRAINWORX
bx_console AMEK 200
A transparent, precise, and detailed TMT channel strip plugin for mixing and mastering. Infused with the analog-modeled circuits, this channel strip provides the analog vibe that bx_consoles are known for
The new Brainworx plugin has been added to MEGA, MIX & MASTER, and Brainworx Bundles at no extra cost. For a limited time only, get the new bx_console AMEK 200 for just $299 (MSRP $399), and a FREE license of the AMEK EQ 250."
They write FREE in BIG letters! haha
Didn't PA usually have sales for almost 365 days a year offering mainly low quality plugins all sooner or later for 29 or less with vouchers?!
No kidding, I wouldn't download their Amek crap, even if it was for free, I mean real free! , not 299 USD-free. This company is a joke.

That neural amp was a good recommendation I wasn't aware of before thanks - must be a good set of presets somewhere ?

Is Klanghelm SDRR2 Tube freeware? It's not in their current freeware offering, but apparently I have a limited to "Tube" version with an 18 euro update to "SDRR". I'm going for it.
I use that in most projects. also using IVGI2 somewhat less frequently.
TDR Proximity was a constant but it's no longer installable under MacOS, no longer supported.
Kotelnikov is useful.
