hi guys, wow i am confused and this is hilarious? if i understand this correctly you may officially not use a social media icon e.g. from Youtube etc. without permission? i see various videos (music videos, blabla videos etc.) where people use the icons for links etc. and i cannot believe everyone sends a video to Youtube, instagram etc. and asks for permission?

If you’re in the entertainment and media industry, all product placements that show any YouTube Logos, Icons, or elements of the UI (e.g. buttons, pages, mobile screenshots, etc.) in any media (e.g. TV, music videos, movies, books, etc.) must be approved by YouTube. Please adhere to the Logo usage guidelines as well as those found below, then submit your request in English through the Brand Use Request Form. If the product placement will be viewed by a large audience, then you may need to sign Google Inc. release forms.

Important: If you’re part of the press, you don’t need to submit a request for review through the Brand Use Request Form. Please read Using the YouTube Logo. After that, you’re welcome to download the YouTube Logo or Icon for use."

Reacting on the title, it's the reverse: showing YouTube icon and gui elements in other media like tv requires permission.

This is just a bit of bureaucracy to keep the lawyers happy, because the brand must be protected. Fill in the form, and it gets approved. Google / YouTube automates everything.

What's the problem exactly? Graphics and photos have copyright which must be protected and enforced somehow.

thx a lot Bert. i wanted to use icons like this for example here he has 3 logos with his name

an dhere is on the bottom righ the youtube logo with subscribe

Having the YouTube logo on YouTube itself of course is not an issue. Showing it elsewhere is when the permission is needed.

Thx Bert again, do you maybe know if i embed the instagram logo in a youtube video like the above ones? i might leave that all out then if it might be an issue some time. i found on Envato etc. templates for logos etc. i wonder if you buy it there/obtain a license if you are then officially in permission.

Do your own homework. You found it for YouTube, so you'll find it for instagram as well.

It's like using samples. It's theirs, not yours. You know the (theoretical) risks if you haven't even asked for permission.

Using Social Media Icons in a Youtube video is not permitted?
