it seems that when kurt cobain died, the people closest
to him weren't that surprised

according to his mom, kurt always wanted to join the "27 club"
well, soon after he became aware of that club, at least

is it possible to nonlethally distract someone for a whole year?
with cocaine and alcohol maybe?
sure, kurt took drugs, but maybe not enough to be distracted?

i mean if the people closest to kurt cobain believed
that he was serious about killing himself at age 27...
all they had to do is distract kurt until he reaches age 28?
after all, the "28 club" is just not the same as the "27 club"?

but i guess no one distracted kurt from his "27 club" obsession
except maybe his wife...
by having a baby
isn't having and raising a baby enough of a distraction?
not to kurt, i guess

seems silly, that "27 club"
well, his mom's words for it is "that stupid club"

possible fact:
david bowie was so distracted that he couldn't
remember recording his album "station to station"
i vaguely remember reading that he took the most cocaine
shortly before, during, and shortly after that album
but how long did that album take to record?
probably not a whole year

so now i'm thinking about what one of my bros said:
"without drugs, no one is great", that's what he said
so now i'm wondering how great that "station to station" is,
what songs are in it
so i googled it

wowee, it has six songs and i like four of them
i have those four songs in my music collection
i haven't heard the other two yet
but i bet i might like them too if i give them a listen

1. station to station
2. golden years
3.
4. tvc 15
5.
6. wild is the wind

i'm gonna snort a ton of cocaine now
yeah right, no way man
i need to remember scrabble words

anyways, i also googled to double check if david bowie
actually said that part about
not remembering recording that album

and yup it seems to be true
and it seems it happened to other coked-up musicians too

https://www.spin.com/2017/06/musicians- ... own-music/

maybe the problem is that kurt didn't take enough cocaine
it seems he took more heroin than cocaine
and heroin doesn't mess with one's memory
as much as cocaine does?

if kurt took more cocaine before his 27th year then he might
have forgotten about that "27 club"?
and he wouldn't have killed himself?
and he would have written more great songs after 27

so i googled
"what age did jimmy page write stairway to heaven"
the answer is... 27 years old
oh my, what if age 27 really is the limit for writing great songs?

so i googled
"what age was david bowie in 1977"
the answer is... 30 years old

david bowie wrote his berlin trilogy albums when he was
over 30 years old
so 27 is not the age limit for
writing great songs

and it's just not songwriting
bobby fischer was 29 years old when he was at his best?
that's when he beat all those great russian chess players?

but what is the age limit for writing great songs?
maybe there is data that answers that question

maybe i need to research more great songs
and at what age the songwriters wrote those great songs
but i guess "great" is subjective

More seriously, you may achieve more when you're younger, as you have less of the world baggage tying you down. In balance, you also benefit from as much world experience. Perhaps 30 is that 'midpoint'.

Bear in mind though, that there are always outliers. Leonard Cohen wrote 'Hallelujah' when he was 45-50, for example.

I guess you have to first define 'great'.
