It basically scans through the sample folders you add and sorts them all out for you based on various characteristic like tonal character, pitch, noisiness, length, name, type etc.

Both Atlas and XO have a "cloud" made up of coloured dots.

Each dot represents a sample and the neighbouring samples tend to be similar. Different colours represent different drum types.

On XO if you select one of the dots it further refines searches by presenting a selection of alternatives that are very close to your selected sample.

You can also use a "smart" search to narrow down the selection in the cloud.

Very quick and intuitive and beats slogging through folders of samples.
Exactly, I own both, and honestly XO just has a better implementation.

The sequencer in XO is too simplistic and only does 4/4 though. I end up using it to find sounds for the MPC VSTi

Post

I use XO as a tool mainly for finding kits and preparing simple beats to be chopped / mixed / sequenced elsewhere.

XO has better features overall, but needs an updated sequencer to do something like Playbeat does. they also need to revamp sample management of folders and files and the sample search filter screen is way tooooo small.

I concur. Make sure you let them know by filing a support ticket with a "Product Request/Feedback" tag here: https://support.xlnaudio.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

That's what I did. I think if more people voice their wishes they might be inspired to incorporate it into a next XO update.

Why XLN XO doesn't want to work with network drives?

Are XLN guys also knows better how customers should use their products?

I mean I'm really not able to use XO when export folder is on NAS.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Why are you linking to a response by Native Instruments, a different developer? Did XLN say the same somewhere else?

Post

Because in my setup I have a lot of 3d-party vsti/vst, and only two of them won't work with network drives - XLN and NI stuff.
And of course, as you may see it was a question. And yes, with a bit of sarcasm.

Working for me. Are you on Windows or Mac? On Windows I mount network shares to drive letters. Otherwise most apps don't know how to navigate SMB \\paths.

I demo'ed XO, Atlas and Sononym and at the end of the day their sorting/filtering algorithms really didn't cut it for me.
For the time being I'll stick with the free ADSR sample manager and my own sample categorization and tagging system to keep that ever growing mess (millions of samples) in check.

Seems like something new is coming tomorrow. Looks loops-related. Let's hope it's more than a mobile app, judging by the smartphone screen on the right..

Take a look at the new Jamahook assistant. I haven't tried it personally, but it looks like it's similar in terms of AI-based sample sorting. And then there is Waves Cosmos.

The screenshot in the middle in the appstore entry looks like the XLN Life app itself.

Looks a bit like a mix of a sample player where you can splice a loop into individual parts - and then an Euclidian sequencer to put it back into a beat? But we'll be all smarter today after it comes out.
