When is .."just a bit more"... too much?

So today i started a mixed session of a track and sound design, got some drums going and started working on an ambience preset...

"This is souding good but could be better, lets tweak a bit more...."
"Ok, i like where this is going! maybe this modulate that, and that other thing the other thing...
Now Add this and that, modulate a bit more..... OK DONE! sounds good now!"

then i look at CPU meter, around 80%
i mean, it sounded interesting but it's no where near half a track kind of preset..

just ended up replacing it with another preset..I would never finish the track unless i rendered it to Audio ..
[guess it's a preset to be released for 2030 onward CPU's ]

i did have that thought..... "should i try to go past 100% CPU? still can set up some more modulations"

but the preset was ready imo and knew it was totally possible, so no point in stressing the CPU and spending the extra energy....
