I agree.
There's no pizzicato or real staccato either.
Considering this only covers some part of the problem, so you might want to use samples as well and that could be a problem trying to find the same sound between synful and the other banks, the price is too high.

See, that's the kind of claim that I'm talking about. GPO (and others) are fully capable of changing timbres during sustained notes. And with GPO's filtering they're just as seamless.

I really enjoyed Maquinando on Synful. Was the Delay for Expression on when you did this. If not it might make some of the fast runs sound more authentic. But I liked it as it is.

Hi Everyone,
I wanted to make a few comments about the immediate future plans for Synful Orchestra. I agree with many of the comments about Synful Orchestra not being complete yet. We intend to do the following over the next several months:
1) Many instrument improvements especially in brass.
2) A couple of flavors of muted brass..
3) String pizz, harmonics, tremolo, and some other variants
4) Better trill support (some trills sound good now as in the Rite of Spring example)
5) Bass Clarinet, Tuba, Piccolo
6) String sections and other instrument sections.
Most of these will be available as a free update. Eventually we will have a paid upgrade with the usual kind of upgrade rates but that won’t be for a year and most or all of this will be done by then. The string sections may be packaged separately.

There is currently a one second delay whenDelay forExpression is on. This is because right now the sequencers (Cubase, Sonar, etc) do not provide a way for a plugin to look ahead in a MIDI sequence. This would be the ideal solution and I think eventually this will happen -- perhaps with pressure from the user community -- there is nothing technically difficult about it. When this happens we can do away with the one second delay and the benefits of Delay for Expression will happen automatically when you're playing a sequence.

As a developer of MIDI FX plugins, I entirely agree. Unfortunately, sequencer developers generally don't!Synful wrote:This would be the ideal solution and I think eventually this will happen -- perhaps with pressure from the user community -- there is nothing technically difficult about it.
Why not have at least a track-switchable look-ahead buffer? That way you keep the host's efficiency of providing only the notes you need *unless* a specialized plugin such as this requires it. Seems straight-forward to me, but they never seem to go for it.
I imagine Spectrasonics could be brought on board for such a push: their Trilogy bass module could use a good "automatic"/track-insert (non-realtime) system to compliment their "true staccato" performance mode.

Synful will be at Winter NAMM but currently we don't have a booth. We applied too late unfortunately. In any case we will be doing demos and talks in a suite. I will post annoucement of details. Anyone interested who hasn't already downloaded a demo should email to be put on the notification list. Those who did download will receive an annoucement about NAMM details.
Anyone who has some influence with the NAMM people or who wants to share a booth please contact me. We'd still like to be on the floor!

Eric of Synful,
Thanks for your presence here and for your feedback.
Quick question: How do I pan? Is there only one program (e.g. violin versus flute) for each instance?
Re: The violin sound.
Yes, your technology does a new exciting representation of that difficult continuum area between notes. So kudos for that. But the overall sound, especially the sustain, is weak. I hope you can address that.
Tip for other users: Because Synful adds a 1 sec delay when the delay for expression button is on, that has to be compensated for in other tracks. I used a simple 1 sec delay effect module for the other tracks.

Here is another first attempt example.
NOTE: Only the 1st violin is Synful, the other parts are GPO.

Thanks for that, YbaCuO – very interesting comparison. To my ears the Synful violin makes the whole piece sound more alive. How do you feel about Synful’s usefulness for blending with an orchestral sample set?

Synful addresses and partially succeeds in solving that impossible-to-address-with-samples that area of sound that connects two notes. So rapid passages, protamento effects, slurs, etc. sound more "interesting."
However, the sustain part is covered much better by traditional samples right now.
Will there be a happy union someday, or will this resynthesis RPM technique solve the sustain part?
Certainly interesting times ahead.

For example, listen to this Violin Sonata by Franck, again all with GPO, I tried and shuddered in horror when trying Synful ...

Maybe I should post my attempt?
