A serious discussion on freeware reverbs

I'll start. For freeware I mean normally freeware, not temporary giveaways.

Plate Reverbs:
Airwindows kPlate series (a nice selection of very nicely-coloured vintage plate reverbs, can sound grainy but it's charming)
Black Rooster RO-GOLD (often a bit too rich)
Variety of Sound Epic Plate (1 or 2) (very clean, very smooth)
Freeverb-based Dragonfly Plate Reverb (vanilla but useful, especially in the background)
HOFA SYS AlgoVerb (the free version only has a plate reverb, but it sounds very nice)
Voxengo OldSkoolVerb (best for background reverbs)

Algo Room/Hall Reverbs:
Freeverb Hibiki reverb (seriously, some of the best rooms and halls I've heard)
Orilriver by Denis Tihanov (very good)
Stone Voices Ambient Reverb (nice, if not exciting)
Signaldust Tila2 (quite effective for short rooms)
Signaldust Abstract Chamber (the chamber version)
Sanford Reverb (very clear jack of all trades)

FX Reverbs:
Airwindows BrightAmbience3 (works wonders on pads)
Airwindows ClearCoat (very nice on drums)
MODE MACHINES Giant Verb (as the name says)
Klanghelm TENS jr (a great model of a smooth studio-grade spring reverb, different from the classic spring sound, ie. Fender Spring reverbs)
Adam Szabo Solaris (great shimmer reverb)

Honourable mention:
ArtV TurboPaco (you can get it to sound like some of the classic '80s digital verbs)

Haha, I compiled the list and I actually forgot to include the discussion.

These verbs are all, in my opinion, studio quality or even not studio quality but make up for their technical simplicity with character (Airwindows verbs for instance).

Now, I think the above selection doesn't leave anything out (the ones I left out are kinda weak, in my opinion), but is there an actual commercial reverb you would really, truly miss?

You forgot the free Sanford reverb (it was at one time a paid plugin). Still one of the best sounding freebies rivalling some commercial verbs and certainly not "kinda weak".

Who is that Japanese guy, who released several great reverbs many years ago?

The Dragonfly Room and Hall plugins are fantastic, Hall is based on 'Hibiki' and Room on 'ProG'. Personally not a fan of DF-Plate.

I'd also add TAL-Reverb 4, Audio Damage ADVerb (legacy) and Valhalla Supermassive to the list of best reverbs money can't buy.

edit: And I guess NI Raum is now permanently free

So no mention of Vallhalla supermassive ?
Altough it doesn't try to replicate real world spaces ,it is still a great sounding reverb

Supermassive is more like a "verby delay". But yes, it's very, very good.

can you discuss lists in a discussion? Discuss
I wonder what happens if I press this button...

Orilriver has an unusual name and ugly UI (imo) so my brain always wants to use something cool and slick, but it honestly sounds better than any other reverb I have in a lot of situations, free or paid.

I'll also add that Native Instruments Raum is now free, and I've found it to be very impressive in the short time I've used it.
