Ableton 12 - Generative MIDI, Multiband Distortion and more

Can anybody with access to the beta say:

1. If the interface frame rate is higher, or if the program feels smoother overall?

2. More importantly, how's the CPU performance or efficiency when compared to version 11 or 10?

Something weird I'm finding with Ableton Live 12 beta is that it does run on the efficiency cores for the most part. Right now my performance cores are pretty much idle while the efficiency cores are getting pinged. Usually it's the opposite.

I doubt it gets any better performance, but it won't lose performance on modern chips with efficiency cores etc.

Roar looks great! I wasn't that stoked when Bitwig got probability features so no comment there, but the in key features for filters etc. is also pretty amazing!

I think the 'generators' are more useful in composition for ideas/song starters than the probability stuff. Most of the time I want my songs to sound the same every time I run it, but for jamming and generative stuff it can be fun to throw in some probabilistic variations.

I noticed in the xbitz video at 9:45 that the drop down menu in the piano roll midi manipulation section has the lower part separated for built-in(?) M4L devices.

If that’s what it is… then… OMG
It opens up the piano roll to third party developers (and users?) to take it to places no other DAW can dream of…

Someone please tell me this is true

I can tell you (I am on Windows and Ryzen notebook) that Ableton 12 mixer level meter for example has a much better framerate than on Ableton 11. No tweaks, simply works better. Everything feels smoother and snappier. I didn't do extensive testing yet but that one was very obvious to me.


edit: see this video here when the person presses play you can see how level meters in the mixer are much more responsive

regarding CPU it is the same for me. I tried to Live 12 on Desktop workhorse and on a notebook and it's practically the same CPU usage for me anyway,

It is true. There are already free devices that can be added to Ableton 12 piano roll and there's Ableton documentation on how to build such devices for Ableton Live 12 piano roll.

It is true. There are already free devices that can be added to Ableton 12 piano roll and there's Ableton documentation on how to build such devices for Ableton Live 12 piano roll.

I’ve seen that somewhere and I didn’t realize it was a third party because it looked so integrated in the piano roll section.

This is one of those “Game Changer” thing.

Yes, the future is very bright with 12, possibly one of the best updates so far (and I really liked 11).

I see they also launched the PUSH 3 controller 'upgrade kits' today so people with controllers can make it Stand Alone! What a cool concept!

I don't have Push 3 but I am interested to know are the new MIDI transform and generate tools that are in Live 12 are also available on Push 3 ? And are the screens of these new devices also optimized for the Push 3 experience?

You coming from v3 should be quite annoyed
