I’m pretty sure you think you’re making great points, but it’s such a patently silly defense of your assumptions that I can’t take this conversation seriously anymore. They obviously collect IRs, do you also think the US didn’t land on the moon? because that’s the level of stupid this is headed in.jens wrote: Thu Dec 07, 2023 11:31 pmThere's a few of them, taken over the span of more than a decade - exaggerating dramatically doesn't really help you making your point.machinesworking wrote: Thu Dec 07, 2023 11:13 pm They have dozens of photos and videos of them on their website and youtube channel doing just that, flying around the world capturing IR's.
If they asked me to make some nice IRs for them, I certainly could snag a few pics too while I'm at it - no big deal at all.
(As I hinted at before) Most venues already have a suitable assortment of mics (KM184, C1000, MD441, etc. are the usual suspects) by the way (plus, of course some recording device).
(And whenever the Audioease-guys capture the IRs themselves, than can bring their own gear i.e. that's effectively free).
The way you say that it sounds like it was more expensive to travel with mics than without...![]()

Ikmultimedia Sounset Sound Studio reverb regular price ist about 180 €. It's just reverb of ONE studio and I never heard anyone complain about the price considering the fact there are regular sales. The IK guys had to fly from Italy to Los Angeles and I am not sure whether you find a pizza in LA as good as in Italy. Devs also have to eat!
No kidding, it's just one studio, what does Altiverb offer for its price?!
Let's calculate. There are often sales, so you can get Sunset Sound for 100 (average).
Let's say IK would release another plugin with two studios. A decent price could be 150, three studios maybe 180 and every new addition 10/ studio.
A pizza in LA is more than 10, isn't it?!
Let's not consider gear like lexicon etc, studios and concert halls only.
Let's say you have a plugin with 45 studios/ concert halls. A normal price probably would be 600. ( 5 (famous) studios = 200 + (40x10) = 600)
How many studios, halls, venues, gear does Altiverb offer?!
Hundreds!!!

Even greater idea - how about starting a thread on the topic of things that add the acoustics of spaces to recordings, I'm not sure KVR has had (m)any of those recently.jens wrote: Wed Dec 06, 2023 8:23 pmthat sounds like a great idea - I didn't even know something like this exists...geronimo wrote: Wed Dec 06, 2023 7:42 pm a plugin that makes your audio sound like it's playing somewhere else, adding the acoustics of existing spaces to your own recordings or live audio.![]()
Back OT, not really sure why people are piling on around the statement that products like this take a lot of time and money to produce. And if you balk at the price of something like this you're not the intended target audience, which is people who make money doing post-production. If you're filing taxes and deducting expenses as a pro the price of your tools is a secondary concern. But yeah we're here at KVR so...

It's just that everything I said obviously flew way past over your head.machinesworking wrote: Fri Dec 08, 2023 5:15 am I’m pretty sure you think you’re making great points, but it’s such a patently silly defense of your assumptions that I can’t take this conversation seriously anymore. I'll try again, because it's clear that I need to make it a lot simpler for you:
At every venue there's a technician well capable of executing whatever instructions you give them.
They will also be absolutely capable of renting every mic (or speaker) you want them to use if they don't have that. (and for little money (here in Switzerland a stereo pair of the 4006 they use sets me back 40CHF/day and the Genelecs might be another 50/piece/day - and Switzerland is expensive))
If you contact them privately they might even be allowed to use the venue for free during their spare-time.
In every town or city there'll also be freelancers who are personally aquainted with the venue-techs and can do it all for you.
I'm not at all saying that this is going to be for free, but I just think you are exaggerating stuff dramatically because - unlike me - you don't really have a clue.
On the Audioease-website they have listed every indivual IR that is included in Altiverb. Sometimes they give specific infos about the engineers who took part in creating the IR and then often indeed the Audioease main guy himself is involved (but then it's usually either close to their HQ or they've been there anyway e.g. for NAMM) - sometimes they just say something along the lines of "recorded with DPA4006" and sometimes they specifically state that someone else captured the IR - and most often they give no specific info at all. So there is absolutely NO reason to assume that they captured them all by themselves - and flew all over the world with their own Genelecs specifically for that purpose - that's frankly quite naive really.

true - perhaps we both should start one, just for good measure.Winstontaneous wrote: Fri Dec 08, 2023 6:25 amEven greater idea - how about starting a thread on the topic of things that add the acoustics of spaces to recordings, I'm not sure KVR has had (m)any of those recently.that sounds like a great idea - I didn't even know something like this exists...![]()

Considering all the silly names for products, it doesn't really come close, everyone knows what the FL in FL Studio stands for. I think of it more like band names, at some point most people forget how silly names like The Dandy Warhols, Fall out Boy, etc. are and just think of it as the music etc.NikkiA wrote: Thu Jan 25, 2024 10:18 pm I still think it's hilarious having a product named after a technology it was an early adopter of, that hasn't been relevant for nearly 20 years.
