It's only when music gets taken away when people will realize it's a drug.
This is why musicians are taken advantage of and taken for granted.

Coke goes in through the nose, heroin through the veins (predominantly), alcohol and weed through the mouth....and music through the ears. Note it's not just sound, it's music. With that in mind, I write to get high off my songs. I won't settle for anything less than a good hit.
Great explanation! Actually everything is in there. :tu:

I thank everyone for their openness and contribution. Because
it's not that easy to open up and talk about your personal attitude
and development on this topic.

A development that I know well - and that you can hear here in
most musicians - is typical:

When you get into music as a young person, you have the hope
and goal of "making it big" and thereby achieving fame and
financial independence.

Only over time - and usually after many detours through completely
different activities and jobs - do you realize that "making it big" is
a kind of chimera - a mirage: only very few are able to get a great
career in the music business. But for most musicians, no matter
how good they are, this path remains closed forever.

Once you have realized this and have mastered this step of
"growing up", then you realize: You make your music entirely for
yourself - for your own enjoyment of it. And that would be option (5).

===============================================

However ...

... as a musician or artist you run the risk of sinking into an autistic
hole and disconnecting from society and your surroundings when
you spend nights in the studio tinkering with your songs.

And that's why, even after so much "adult, reasonable insight" there
is still the desire to "be heard a little bit." So you want other people
to hear your songs - and give some feedback to you. Because no
one wants to live completely - even if only musically - in a vacuum.

Therefore, there is always some tension remaining between point
(5) of the list above and the other points (1), (2) and (3).

Frankly I find it hard to believe that anyone much past the age of 12 would say or think that...

Uh, Axl Rose?

Not well worded on my part. I didn't mean such people don't exist. It just amazes me. Or maybe I should have said "people much past the age of 12 emotionally"

Yes, here we get closer to the core of the question.

Because everyone would agree with you: such a motivation to make
music is completely insane, infantile and pubescent. And no one does
anything to become a star. :)

But at second glance ...

... maybe there is a lot behind the wish. Because many people are
caught up in the daily routine of their job and may feel humiliated by
their boss. Maybe they feel “completely misunderstood” or “in the
wrong place”. The film “American Beauty” shows this everyday life
wonderfully. :scared:

Some then create a kind of escape from this dilemma: This could
be, for example, retreating to a music studio, where they then mix
their own sound tracks and songs at night or on the weekend. But
if they don't find a solution by withdrawing, if withdrawing isn't enough
because they simply want to be more "visible" socially, but not as a
small recipient of orders from the boss or as a clerk... then... yes,
then maybe they will develop - as compensation, a vision of themselves.
And maybe such a person thinks "Actually, I'm a star - but no one has
noticed that yet.
"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What I want to say: It could be that our "unconscious" wants something
completely different than our mind, which is trained on rationality and
reason. And "this different" could be like “I’m something special: I make
music, I’m a star!” slumbering hidden inside? :?:

I find that understandable, humane. It just doesn't fit
our rational world.

i would like to express and add to my answer (choice number 4) this:

i think i started "trying" to make songs after realising this thought
one day

"damn, these songs really affected me, it made me forget my headache, what a powerful thing, these songs"

but cds cost money
so why not make my own aspirin
but to this day, i rely on cds and mp3s to affect me
and sometimes, actual aspirin too
ah böwakawa poussé poussé

Post

Went Gluten free - stopped my headaches.
Now listen to music without a headache.

Post

I stopped listening to modern RnB, poof! headache gone.

Post

I’d love to turn my love for music into a career - as long as I can keep loving the music.

Post

to use up the time between dream states.
