"Skinable user interface: We created 59 new skins which can selected in SETUP. The look of the previous version is still available as "Icarus2 classic" skin."
Can you share previews?
I never bought Icarus as the old UI wasn't to my liking. This sounds exciting though.

Maybe in a week.
It really looks a lot better in large sizes in general and dramatically better on the mac with hidpi screens.
But the more important aspect that can't be shown in a still image is: Everything is now interactive, smoothly animated and more intuitive to use.

It says upgrade to V3 on their website.JJ303 wrote: Sun Nov 26, 2023 4:22 pm Regarding that that Icarus 3 will be free update if purchase Icarus2 directly from tone2.com.
Would “after November 2023” be from November 1st or December 1st?
Asking as depending on language and country it could be either, and really want to buy it as soon as possible as it is great.

This upgrade link already includes a licence key for the upcoming v3.0 which will be released in early 2024.
If you upgrade now you get a key for v2.x and v 3.x.
v3.0 is 100% downward compatible with the current version (v2.5.x) .

Hi Markus and Tone2-Team,
may I ask a question here ... I recently cleaned up my Icarus installation, removing all V1 left-overs and cleanly installed Icarus 2 once again to be well prepared for the Icarus 3 upgrade
I figured that the Icarus preset files will be installed into the vst2 folder, i.e. C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST2. by the way, I'm using windows 10.
I use Bitwig as a DAW and I think there is a problem with the plugin scanner in bitwig regarding the presets. Starting up Bitwig really takes long to get the list of plugins ready. And I took a quick peak into the log file of bitwig and saw some of the icarus preset files mentioned there ... My current assumption is, that bitwig will fail to scan the preset files because these are not actual plugins, though stored in the plugin folder. I'm aware that this is actually kind of a bitwig problem ... but would it be possible to move the icarus presets elsewhere?
I have looked for an option to move the icarus presets to the documents folder, but wasn't able to find it. Is there an option I missed in the installer? Help/Hints apprciated.
Thanks a lot!

Hello Peter,
we have not heard from such a problem from other users. So there might be something else that causes slow loading times on plugin scanning on your computer.
--------
The preset files are stored in ../Icarus_sounds/Some_Catergory/*.fxp
You can install Icarus to any location you like. Like C:\Program Files\Tone2\Icarus. Then Bitwig will not know about the existence of the fxp files or the VST2 plugin. However then only the VST3 plugin will be available in it.
Make sure that you unistall Icarus properly before you move it to another location to avoid duplicate files.
However I do not recommend that you waste time with the above steps as I do not think that it will change much.
-----
I don't know about the hardware in your PC, but if you still have not migrated from a classic HD to a SSD this could also drastically speed everything up. Classic HDs are insanely slow these days.
You can also check out if other software that is running in the background (virus scanners) or Windows upgrades are slowing down your computer.
--------
I also recommend to contact the support of Bitwig if this does not solve your problem.
The preset files are *.fxp files. I am pretty sure that the (by the way very talented) Bitwig developers are aware that a *.fxp is not a *.dll file and will skip scanning on these.
Best Regards!

For the record I had issues with Bitwig constantly scanning and indexing it's own content. Presets, samples, etc. It could take up to five minutes of constant drive activity and 10 or more if I had it set to scan plugins on startup.Tone2 Synthesizers wrote: Fri Dec 08, 2023 11:38 am I also recommend to contact the support of Bitwig if this does not solve your problem.

I uninstalled all the Bitwig content and now startup time is near instant, as fast as any other DAW I own. It still takes a very long time to scan plugins. As a comparison Tracktion's Waveform DAW automatically looks for newly installed plugins on startup and scans them in an instant. No need to scan already scanned files.
I contacted BW support and all they wanted to do was blame my system which runs 6 other DAWs just fine. They refused to acknowledge there is an issue with scanning and indexing files so I wouldn't expect them to help much in this case.
The problem is for some reason Bitwig wants to scan and index the same files over and over and over on every first start. It won't look at the date and time of the last scan and only scan any new files added after that date and time. Pretty simple concept.
The real issue for me was that BW would scan my personal presets in locations that it wasn't given permission to scan. Apparently BW gave itself permission to scan the entire drive.
So in this case I don't place the blame on Icarus (or any other plugin) but on Bitwig itself. I didn't move any Icarus data. Good luck with support. My experience with them was quite frustrating.

I know this problem only from Logic… Did you check permissions? (Just a shot in the dark…)

Many thanks, Tone2 Support. I will try to install it to a different location then!Tone2 Synthesizers wrote: Fri Dec 08, 2023 11:38 am Hello Peter,

And yes, as you said: It's more of a bitwig problem than one of Icarus. That's clear.

Yeah a bit surprising the upgrade cost is the same from a paid license as from a free magazine license (if I understand correctly?)
That aside, I'd happily pay the upgrade fee if mpe works with vst3, but tone2 seem strangely silent on that. It's listed in the features but would like confirmation it's not still a "VST2 only" feature.

The product is still under development. The final feature set and the prices will be officialily annouced when the plugin is released. The price will be fair and reasonable.
The upgrade was over one year of work. It is huge and the plugin and its content have been enhanced drastically. It will be fully optional. Noone will be forced to upgrade. Icarus2.x will continue to work without any limitation.
