I have no Izotope plugin and will never buy a license as I utterly despise these abandonware producing companies.
I am not happy at all, as well, but as long as the plugins work I will use them.
And the trio NI, PA and Izotope are exactly the devs I never liked a lot.
I have no good alternative for reverbs that could replace EA especially for real instruments.
I demoed TC Vss3 yesterday.
This could be an option, but TC support and maintenance etc suck and 199 are a pretty high price and TC is not TC anymore, it's Behringer, so who knows whether Behringer is also going to discountinue TC products!

I checked the website yesterday and the replacements (Symphony and Stratus) were on sale at around $30 each. https://www.izotope.com/en/products/exp ... audio.html
Now there's two versions, with the cheaper one doing up to 7.1 and the expensive one (called "3D") doing Atmos.

But as long as R4 and Nimbus keep working, I'm using those. I even prefer the lighter themed GUI.
Technically abandonware, but they are great plugins and I already gave up on the idea that I could open a project in several years and expect everything to work.

Out of curiosity I installed demo of Stratus.
Only the gui is an insult towards Exponential Audio. Was not even inspired to check soundwise. De-installed immediately! I know not everyone likes EA''s guis either, but I got used to it and like it. What do they add to their tea at Izotope?

Here it is:
https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/ ... 34-Stratus
The sound is 99% the same, tested side by side, same presets settings, same sonic result, only difference is cinematic 7.1 surround upgrade.
Nimbus is unique tool i bought it for 10 euro with last discount ,before to disappear in www oblivion :):):)
Highly recommend to check Tonebooster Reverb 4,not the same as Nimbus, but unique as it.
Not so many original hq reverberators out there with affordable price imho.
Cheers :)

The Exponential audio developer sold his plugins to Izotope and retired some time later.
He also developed the later Lexicon reverbs.
Since NI and Izotope know how to code a plugin i assume that Stratus and Symphony won't be abandoned in the way Lexicon did. They'll maintain DAW compatability.
Especially since there is money to be made in surround, there is not much competition.
But unless a new reverb hero stands up i think it's the end of the line for the algoritmic development of these kind of reverbs. The knowledge dies with the developer.

Back to his home in the ocean, I guess. 😄

On a more serious note, Phoenix/Nimbus/Stratus were far and away the best reverbs I had ever heard until I got the MEssentialsFX bundle from MeldaProduction, which included MTurboReverbLE.

It's the only other reverb I've tried that can equal Phoenix/Nimbus/Stratus. My favorite reverb model in it is the Brichamber one, which I assume is aimed at emulating a Bricasti.

Try the 15 day demo, and if you like it, wait for it to come up on their rotating 50% sale, or likely an upcoming holiday sale as Xmas approaches.

The full non-LE version is absolutely unnecessary unless you want to get into designing your own algorithms, and I'm too busy mixing for that level of tweakery.

Doesn't Nimbus run in every daw or os any more, have no issues?!
Another remarkable thing is the very low cpu usage for such a complex reverb

I picked up Symphony/Stratus here a little while ago because I want Mac M1 support. I did some comparisons when replacing Nimbus/R4 in my projects and they sounded quite different using the same presets. Stratus sounded like the late reverb had been turned down. It was like that on every preset I tried. Odd since it’s supposed to be exactly the same and you can import user presets from the older plugin.

I like the older and newer Exponential Audio tech based reverbs. Stratus 3D and Symphony 3D give great sounding results for me. Yet I too am bothered by the trail of abandonware littering their releases, seems inevitably just a matter of time that these too will go on the pile. I have the Post Production Suite 7.5 and there are some extremely powerful tools in it, but I have trouble seeing "the future" of Izotope's plugs.

I think you probably did something wrong way...
Made from scratch two identical presets with both and they sound absolutely the same...
If it was at least 10% different i would have it now..but it's 99% the same plugin with some cinematic output upgrade.
Which, i guess, explain why Nimbus is no longer available...
Cheers :)

Nimbus and R4 have crashed and burned Studio One before - causing such horrendous noise in my headphones I may literally have suffered hearing damage that's no joke (my bad for not having Ice9 installed, I guess). I deleted them soon after, despite how they were my favorite reverbs at the time. I wouldn't suggest using them - as more and more time passes and tech evolves, the more and more risk you take using them.

After doing a demo of almost every reverb at the time, I ended up replacing them with Cinematic Rooms Pro and TaiChi and, honestly, have never really missed them since those are so incredible (CRP is my favorite reverb of all time). I have Stratus and Symphony and almost never use them.

I've read people claim that there's tiny differences in the way Stratus and Symphony sound in stereo vs. the even-older Nimbus and R4 reverbs.

I think the deal price 25 for Stratus is because it will also be discontinued sooner or later. I don't trust Izotope at all.
They put so little love and effort into the gui, it's just making some money quickly imo

Post

Yup. If it's NI or iZotope and it's a great product...chances are they're going to discontinue it.

With so many products available www the main is user's attention imho.
That's why so many free stuff lately, man just can't remember everything new, which pop up every day as new releases,so discounts and free stuff give bigger audience.
I personally prefer good old demo - download,check it,if like it buy now...if not,bye bye :):):)

I’m not sure what I could have done wrong, I have tried with factory presets and also imported my custom presets and the sound isn’t the same. All the parameters look correct (aside from the different early reflections parameters on the newer plugins).
