It occured to me I didn't even have any 909 hat samples on my hard drive. Heh.

Nope, I'm a very improper musician. I once used mda ePiano -> sample reducer -> hipass filter in place of hi-hats

I dunno about 909 hats, I suppose if you put them through a nice distortion they could be OK but I wouldn't use 'em raw. In fact the hats I use most are out of HammerHead with the overdrive on.

I think the problem is that a bunch of poor artists think that since some of the best songs contain the 909 O-hat, that any song with the sample will be good. Therefore, I'm annoyed by it in commercials, the arcade, at the mall, etc.

When I make trance, I only add the Holy TR-909 Open hihat if the track calls for it. Like some one mentioned before, it is sometimes irreplacible.

909 hihats - will they ever be bettered?
