- Case - (Thermaltake Versa H17 Black SPCC Micro ATX (10lbs) or Fractal Define 7 Mini(16lbs))
Mobo - Asus Prime Z790M-Plus D5
CPU - Intel i7-14700k
CPU Fan - Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE (Or Noctua NH-D15 if I have to)
Memory - Corsair Vengeance 64GB DDR5 5600 CMK64GX5M2B5600C40
HDD - 2 Samsung 990 Pro 2TB
PSU - Seasonic Focus GX-750 Gold
What I want to do is build a smaller and lighter machine. My current i7-4770 Devil's Canyon machine is in a Fractal Design Define R4, which is a monster at 27 pounds by itself. I'd rather be at half that weight or even less with the Thermaltake case, hence why I'm looking at doing a MicroATX build in a Micro ATX case. I am concerned with noise, but I'm also concerned with heat. Was looking at the Fractal Design Pop Mini Silent, but the thermals seem to be several degrees higher than other cases. I really am not interested in the expense of water cooling, and will undervolt the 14700k to help with it not bumping up against the 100C max temp. It doesn't have to be COMPLETELY silent, but I want very minimal noise from the case.
Goal for this machine is streaming libraries like EastWest/UVI/Native Instruments with plenty of other VSTi's (Eventide effects, SoundToys, Rob Papen, U-he, Korg, Roland Cloud, etc.) I went with the Samsung 990 Pros for throughput because of that (and they were $120 on sale.) I'd also like to have a powerful enough machine to handle plenty of plugins for years to come. My last machine I build in 2014, so would like to make it last, but balance cost too.
Anyone having any issues with MicroATX and the i7 14700k? Just worried about the CPU cooler clearing memory and the built in heat sinks on the Mobo as well. The fans are 150-154mm in height and the the thermaltake as 155mm room for it, and the Fractal has 167mm for clearance. Leaning more towards the Fractal with the more than 1mm clearance sounds a bit better.
Thoughts?
