Nice little surprise that the software version of the Arturia MiniFreak got an upgrade to match the new firmware for the hardware version. Been playing with the Wavetables, I do like how they link in with the LFOs via the quantize options. Pretty sweet update for free.
Edit: The new preset named Liminal Arp is gorgeous. Turns just about any chord progression into something off JMJ's Equinoxe album.

FINALLY got the replacement battery carrier for my Ovation Applause. No idea what happened to the original, it was loose from when I bought it and I'll likely find it when I move out of here.
Looking at cheap Tascam recorders for the guitar micro-studio. The small six-track should do as drums and bass will be sequenced on the Liven Bass and Beats (for now). Recorded tracks will be brought into the DAW for polishing and finalization.
Already pricing electric guitars. WTF! I feel like my main DAW is complete and stable, so G.A.S. switches to guitar gear! Deity help me I''m researching basses too!
HELP ME, WHY CAN'T I STOP?

I have a Tascam recorder. I do like it for under my DSLR, but, it's a bit fiddly in the studio. Do you know what isn't? The Allen and Heath CQ series compact mixers. The thing is, they should call them compact mixer/recorders because that's what they are. You can record all of the input channels and the mix outs at the same time to an SD card and then take it up to your DAW for processing. I'd go with the 12T for a "guitar micro-studio."SuitcaseOfLizards wrote: Tue Dec 12, 2023 1:15 pm FINALLY got the replacement battery carrier for my Ovation Applause. That's an interesting device, however, it's WAY WAY outside my budget for music gear! Too bad, it would be perfect for my needs. Le sigh.ghettosynth wrote: Tue Dec 12, 2023 2:04 pmI have a Tascam recorder. I do like it for under my DSLR, but, it's a bit fiddly in the studio. Do you know what isn't? @ghettosynth: no, I'm 64 and neither one is working properly now. Might get$10.
Well, no rush now, turns out the pre-amp in the cheap old Ovation I own is dead and it'll cost more to fix it that to use towards getting something better.
Feh.

I forget that being on lame forums kind of automatically means that one is over the hill. My second suggestion of starting an only fans site probably isn't going to be much help either.SuitcaseOfLizards wrote: Wed Dec 13, 2023 4:23 am @ghettosynth: no, I'm 64 and neither one is working properly now. You need to have friends with a hot soldering iron. I remember years ago we started a band and our guitar player, who could also play keys, had an old Farfisa organ with a missing voice card and several broken voice cards. Someone had dropped the thing. I pieced together all of the broken ones and reverse engineered him a replacement voice board. It was a bit thin sounding because I used CMOS flip flops instead of the vintage transistor flip flops that were in the original, but it worked. We had a great time doing doors covers and other rock favorites for about a year until life got in the way of music.Well, no rush now, turns out the pre-amp in the cheap old Ovation I own is dead and it'll cost more to fix it that to use towards getting something better.
Feh.

I have several Tascam portable recorders, including an old (2008) DR-1 which still works great. Highly recommend.SuitcaseOfLizards wrote: Tue Dec 12, 2023 1:15 pm Looking at cheap Tascam recorders for the guitar micro-studio. The small six-track should do [...]

@ghettosynth: What. Ever.
@Shabdahbriah: yeah, not interested in fancy mixing/recording stuff, just record my drum machne and gu8itar without firing the DAW up. Tascam deffo at the top of the list!

Since I watched the Podular Modcast interview with Madrona Labs, I was thinking "why don't I ever use Kaivo?" I really love Aalto after all. So I gave it a couple of dedicated hours and just did not enjoy it. I wasn't getting that I like, and the flow doesn't feel right to me.
Switched to Aalto to noodle around for a while, see if I could stretch it out of my usual habits, and loved every minute of it.

Went to record something earlier and realised my (up to now) ever reliable MioXL MIDI interface was dead. No lights. The power adapter isn’t like any I have spare so having to order a new one in and cross my fingers that fixes it.

If so, my bad, these look fine. They are designed to be a little micro studio. That's not what I have, I have one of these.

They're designed for a DLSR and are too fiddly to use for recording in a studio setting. The buttons are small and inconvenient. The track buttons have become sticky on mine. The batteries are in an awkward place, and all of the outputs are designed to work well with a DLSR, i.e., they are all some variant of a 1/8" jack. The four XLR combo inputs are nice. It's also not a multitrack. I got it for field recording, and for that, it works great. Just set things up and start recording. It has a nice feature where it doubles the recording on two tracks to the second pair only at a lower gain in case you overload your main channels.
The DSLR recorders are also quite expensive for the audio features as they are made to be durable.

Specifically, the six-track and eight-track Portastudio things. I need cheap and cheerful, Social Security retirement doesn't pay a whole lot so resources are limited/ Simple enough, unfortunately.ghettosynth wrote: Wed Dec 13, 2023 6:08 pmAre you guys talking about stuff like this?Shabdahbriah wrote: Wed Dec 13, 2023 7:51 amI have several Tascam portable recorders, including an old (2008) DR-1 which still works great.
