That's right, you tell 'em. I played a vintage Gibson Les Paul in 1980. Used to think it was great. Now I'm all grown up, I only ever play this, and I am a boss.

Still something missing though.
Couldn't find out yet, but...
Over sampling may be?

With all the incredibly powerful synths at our fingertips these days the MiniMoog is a toy. A toy that is for whatever reason popular with people not around during those days but a toy none the less.

If the MiniMoog is their "signature synth" in the collection then they have failed....hard.
You're going to be blown away when you find out people are still playing pianos... and guitars... and electric basses (only four strings!!!)... and violins...

12 wavetable oscillators and infinite modulation aren't going to improve a G-Funk bassline.

Minimoog is indeed important, probably the most important synthesizer, because it is the industry standard for synth bass and leads. But of course, Mini V is not a real Minimoog, it's just your mouse and keyboard. But you get what I'm saying. Arturia absolutely had to have an updated Minimoog to be taken seriously.

I find it a bit strange that the new Minimoog lost so much functionality. It seems there is only one additional envelope now via the Function modulator (whereas there used to be a few). Not sure why one of the 2 modulators is fixed as an lfo (even though it can be set to envelope mode, the shapes are still basic lfo shapes so it's really just a single lfo cycle). The Function mod can work as an lfo, so they both could have been functions. The lfo seems needlessly limited. And of course the cool vocal filter is gone. Adding optional release knobs would have made additional envelopes less needed.

It sounds better, but is it that much better? I don't know. Still not Model 72 or Legend quality. Still has the Arturia buzziness. I say that having always actually liked the Arturia Mini, with a distinctly Arturia sound (but that I happen to like for variation on a mini).

Yep, I'm not a huge Mini fan, but to knock it is to miss out on where it stands in the lexicon. CS80 is a cool synth, but it's popularity is in part due to it's limited run.

Another missing feature in the new Mini V is the "sync" function for oscillator 1.

Post

Oh yeah sync gone too. That was something that set it apart from other Minis.

I haven't read through the whole thread - so apologies if this has already been mentioned.

The MiniFreak V ver 2 is broken (for Windows anyway) as it doesn't respond to MIDI CC messages - so automation is broken. The support team know about it and said it will be fixed in an update.

I've gone back to the older version - and it works fine.

V Collection is a good value because its got a decent collection of Pianos in addition to Synths. Unlike previous versions the latest release updates all Piano to current modelling

Rhodes
Wurlitzer
Clav

Acoustic Grand

This makes complete sense coming from the perspective of someone who doesn't actually make music with their plugins.

No.

The latest release only updated the wurli. It's ok now, was not very good before. The CP-70 is new and is ok. The Clav is bad. The rhodes is ok. The acoustics aren't bad but don't replace sampled pianos. None of them are as good as sampled pianos.

I don't see a point in arguing with the initial statement. You're suggesting that no other synth can be used instead. If your production or workflow is so limited that no other synth can be used, it's up to you. However, any contemporary synth can produce a wide spectrum of sounds suitable for various genres of music. I can name a few: Dune, Pigments, Spire, and the list goes on. Even the KVR's One Synth Challenge threads showcase this better than any words.

Just looking at it, I can tell it aliases like a mofo
A well-behaved signature.
