Studio One already has adverts so it wasn't something I thought was unusual for a topic.

No, there are no ads in Studio One.

Or do you mean that news feed thing?

Yes, the news feed. Always something new distracting you from the reason why you started up the DAW in the first place. Like a link taking you to some website or youtube video and then get distracted by more videos lol. It's essentially an advertising space within the DAW.

I never even look at it.

They'll be blipverts, so most won't even notice them until they explode.

VOODOO U wrote: Thu Dec 14, 2023 12:48 am Will the ads pop up/play randomly during a session or are they cluttering the GUI?
Yes and some of the ads will flash like a strobe light.
Then I'm out. Ads that flash like strobe lights send subliminal messages and i get enough of that with billboards, magazines and Seth MacFarlane cartoons.

Expect it to be free from that point onwards. Sorry only read the title of the thread and see you had that there.

It's one of the worst ideas I have ever heard of.

The way I understand, it's not an idea. It's an imagination. You know, the way people often have these days. Some kind of "thought", which has to be shared with the internet immediately.

I don't really understand it either. Must be a gen Z thing.

I am usually trying to avoid every possible obstacle between creativity to having it recorded, including time itself. That is not even to mention professional work.

Maybe we can have dinner ideas, news feed EQ's, Twitter compressors, Facebook on your inserts, Instagram links on your effects returns ? Autotune settings sponsered by Fortean Times. Chat GTP on your master bus.

Maybe we can have advert pop ups for every MIDI note message received by the DAW.

Sorry 'no free-lunchers', but...
Nathanananan wrote: Thu Dec 14, 2023 12:40 am Say all the daws went free but now have ads?

the catch is the new ad daws all have every feature that you want.
I'm already FLOSS with Ardour, so that's not going to happen. In the ridiculously-unlikely event that it does, someone somewhere will take that code out and offer the ad-free Ardour download.

That's another beauty of FLOSS. It's a gift economy.

The sun is free, the water is free, the food we eat grows free.

There is free lunch.

An unanswerable question because it's unrealistic. If DAWs started moving to an ad-supported model, there would poof into existence multiple premium options for an ad-free experience - just like everything else on Earth from television to music to porn.

Cubase has that News bit in "Hub". It can be disabled in Prefs. I always deselected Hub, in C13 no can do. I <cancel> and browse for the proj I want.

FL has their little window on the top when you're connected, but it's very unobtrusive.
