Is it just me or are these new d16 plug in CPU hogs? I think omnisphere uses less CPU than their nepheton2 plug in. Lush2 uses about 5x's what Sylenth uses too and Sylenth sounds better IMO

It would be hard pressed to find any vst that uses as little cpu as sylenth..
But if you prefer the sound of Sylenth, use that.

May be D16 use oversamling. It's the case on Repeater with 3 levels.

Don't know what to reply, apart from "Yes, you are right.". IMO, they use a bit too much CPU for what they do. I don't find LuSH to be exactly super high quality sounding that it would justify that much CPU use, for example.

There are quality settings in D-16 plugins that can have a big impact on CPU demand. Check those.

LuSH101 also has a multi-threading option. It is 8 synths in one so yes it can use more CPU than a simple little synth like Sylenth 1.

As for which one sounds better they're two completely different synths so apples > oranges.

one plugin, default whatever pops up when you launch the plugin, Ableton, M1 Max MBP

Phoscyon 2 - 3%
Nepheton 2 - 12%
Drumazon 2 - 9%
Lush 2 - 5%

Doesn't seem that bad to me

Don't forget to turn off FX. Some of the presets have long FX chains between both buses and the master.

Hmm, I wonder where all that CPU power is going....

If you didn't know already, LuSH-101 uses component modeling technology to re-create the sound of a famous analog synthesizer, exactly the same as Diva, Repro, etc.

Whereas Sylenth1 isn't using component modeling at all, just a very pure set of oscillators and filters, using clever warming effects such as saturation to make the sound nice and analog.

So next time you complain about the CPU, try to understand the difference.

Component modeling? Sounds like mumbo jumbo to me. I think their probably trying to get me to buy a new computer.

Do you have an old computer? You don't have to use the D16 plugins. CPU usage is definitely a factor when deciding which plugins to purchase/use. If the CPU usage is high and you don't feel the sound quality warrants that, then simply pass. Use something else. Plenty of plugins in the sea. If the CPU usage improves in the future or you get a more capable PC, then you can reevaluate at that time.

Funny enough, my Behringer MS-101 doesn't have any CPU problems.

My RD-8 MK II is pretty darn CPU efficient too and sounds way better to me than Nephaton II.

phoscyon 2 is reasonable on my system

I remember when nepheton didnt run on my computer, probably a pentium4.

Now it runs on my i7 but requires an account to switch presets so that's as far as I got.
