Analog Lab is really cool, integrating all the synths and presets. I had overlooked it all this time, but in considering V10, I revisited my V8 collection. How do you all rate Analog Lab? Does it compare well with Omnisphere?

How do you all rate Analog Lab?

I quite like it as a library to the Arturia sounds without having to own the V Collection. What I dislike is not having an option to turn synth bases effects like reverb and delay off (not the ones in the mixer, but the ones in the synth that the patch is built on.. let's have an 'all FX bypass button' on the Analog Lab interface please).

It doesn't. Omnisphere is a fully fledged 'workstation' synth with a vast library of soundsource content and editing, creation capabilities and Analog Lab is just a take-it-or-leave-it preset player.

Yes, where the reverb is baked into the preset and not controllable with the macro knobs really downgrades the functionality. But I guess the point is to lead you into upgrading to the full collection.

If we own the collection, we can, through Analog Lab, open up the synths and tweak them. Or is that only for a limited number of presets. I just did it with one, that allowed me to edit the preset in Pigments. I need to mess with it more, but it doesn't feel all the different than the workflow in Omnisphere, excepting the big difference of not being able add as many layers in Analog Lab V, which does allow adding a second layer. Now I wonder if there are some presets that do layer two different synths. Also need to see if Analog Lab has an init option, to start from scratch.

I don't use analog lab. I don't see the point. I directly grab the synth I want to use (but I also don't use factory presets so I'm probably not the audience).

If you make presets and access them later, Analog Lab could still be useful.

If indeed, one owns the entire V collection, then yes, one can edit the synths through opening them in Analog Lab. As a standalone product, Analog Lab does not have that option.

Yes. Analog Lab allows you to build up multis with two instruments (or the same one a couple of times) with any instrument/ patch you see in the AL browser. You can define splits/layers, apply effects. You get the patches you can see, but if you own the instrument - you can edit it. You are only limited to presets, if you don't own the instrument... hope that makes sense. Init? By default - it opens with a blank slate, with a browser to select presets or instruments.

Thanks for sticking with me! It was the step about adding the "Instrument" column to the Explore tab that was tripping me up. I had it on designer and wasn't quite following at first. Seems like all but 3 of the Wurli patches are the new version. Which still sounds pretty darn bad to me. But that's not your fault. Both of your replies are much appreciated!

As for the new Mini V:
I’m in V Collection 8 plus some new instruments (but not the new Mini V4) and I’m seeing over 200 Wurli presets of which 60 are Mini V4 ones simply called ‘Mini’, while the other presets are ‘Mini V3’.
You can also recognize the new Wurli presets by the inability to call up and edit the instrument itself, if you haven’t got V Collection X.

Interesting, I love Analog Lab as V collection has way too many instruments for me to keep in working memory. There are 4-5 that I use regularly as standalone plugins, but there’s also plenty that I like and never reach for (Prophet VS? CZ? CMI?). Trawling through Analog Lab is a great way to explore the collection and I usually end up editing/layering extensively from there.
