You should. It's got Braziian like tribal drumming patterns in it.
BTW what's the diffeeence between "real drums" and the "usual drum kit"?
Ah ok, just listened in for half a minute, got a bit boring, I don't like solo drumming. But yes, he got rhythm.

By real drums I mean for instance African or Brazilian drums, they have much more tone than the usual drums found on Western drum kits, which sound kind of sterile and bland to me.

Ah yes. African percussion uses animal skin for the heads which gives it it's tone versus whatever it is they use to make drum heads. I should know that dammit i play drums. Plus the type of tree used for the actual drum makes a huge difference in the sound aside from the shape.

I like the sound of those big drums. The video does not transmit the energy, but when you stand there, you can feel the vibrations...

I think with a normal drum kit, this song for instance would not flow the way it does...

I think I don't like the bipolar antagonism between kick and snare that marks much of Western music.

Tone alone would ruin the sound with a standard kit. Great groove

Interesting versions of this classic Brazilian song:

The original from 1973:

And a much more modern version with drums:

Fast forward to 2023, a new version by the daughter of the original composer and singer above, half a century after the original:

The middle version sounds horrible to me, the drums destroy the song...

I make instrumentals without drums sometimes to capture a jam.

This theme song has the best drumming ever. The skill level is just way beyond human.

I was in Portugal during one of their religious festivals (St.João?) and while one of these bands was marching down the streets, it caused some car alarms to go off.
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated. Image

Oh yes, those drums deliver quite a punch. Floors, walls and windows also vibrate.

do you have any examples?
preferably actual hits we will know, not some obscure german rock act from 1987.

often times, not always, the kick and snare have different roles. the kick will hold the pulse, while the snare is for accents.
also, different genres will have very different and recognisable tropes, eg death metal drums are very different to hard rock drums.
