U-he synths (Repro, Diva...) : vst3 or vst2 ?

Hi there
I remember I did read somewhere that Urs Heckmann, from U-he, was recommending to use the vst2 version of its synths instead of the vst3, but I can't find the source anymore.
And of course I don't remember why.
I used only the vst2 versions of Diva or Repro in the last years, but in general I use more and more exclusively the vst3 version of my plugins.
The main reasons being that :
1- vst2 will slowly disappear in the next years (some devs only release vst3 versions now)
2 - I like the way you can automate vst3 plugins in Ableton Live and see the exact parameter value of what you are automating (instead of a 0-1 number)
I was recently thinking to switch slowly to the vst3 version of my beloved U-he synths.
Anyone knows what was the reason under the Heckmann's praise for vst2 ?

IIRC, there were some issues with MIDI learn, but, that was long ago. As far as I know, you can use the VST3's of the u-he plugins, no problem.Calagan wrote: Sun Dec 17, 2023 5:18 pm Hi there

By the way, I think it will still take a looong time until VST2 will disappear. Yes, there are a few developers already only offering VST3, and Cubase will phase out VST2 with one of the upcoming versions of Cubase, but, if you don't use Cubase, I'd relax. The audio software industry is moving slowly...

Thanks for the infos… I did remember something else, that had to do with some things that vst2 could do but not vst3. But I guess it was long time ago and for sure it’s ok now…chk071 wrote: Sun Dec 17, 2023 5:25 pmIIRC, there were some issues with MIDI learn, but, that was long ago. By the way, the main reason I want to switch to vst3 is to simplify my plugins folder. I’ve got a huge quantity of plugins in various formats and I’m fed up managing Au, vst2 and vst3 files. My only problem is the ability to open old sessions…
I hope one day Live will have a vst2->vst3 feature…

All U-He plugins which support Clap are based on Clap. VST2 and VST3 are wrapped Clap plugins. That means you can safely decide which features are the most important. I would trash the VST2 versions and use VST3, as even VST3 can now deal with Midi in a complicated way only the technocrats of Steinberg and the genius's which make CLAP to VST wrappers need to understand…

Not yet, but that's the long-term plan, indeed.Tj Shredder wrote: Mon Dec 18, 2023 12:02 pm All U-He plugins which support Clap are based on Clap. VST2 and VST3 are wrapped Clap plugins.

You have a good memory. That was many years ago.Calagan wrote: Sun Dec 17, 2023 5:18 pm I remember I did read somewhere that Urs Heckmann, from U-he, was recommending to use the vst2 version of its synths instead of the vst3, but I can't find the source anymore.

Apart from Uhbik and Tyrell, you can use the VST3 version of all u-he plugins.
There is just one more exception. If you are using NKS, i.e. Komplete Kontrol or Maschine, you still need the VST2 versions on Windows.
Oh, actually, since you are using Ableton Live, there is one more thing.
Ableton Live does not support MIDI program changes when using VST3.
