Funny that we balance free plugins now.

Raum is free forever, by the way. Like Replika, and the other stuff that's in Komplete Start. Just saying. I know that you will criticize them again now, and go on with your lament how they declined, and what not. It's OK. I get that people are like that in our wealthy Western societies. Spoiled, and never content with anything. Even if they get it for free.

Make no mistake though: Komplete Start is there to tease you for NI's paid stuff. Just like Arturia's Christmas "gifts". And any other company's "gift".

I don't work for free in my dayjob either.

And what a cool lil plugin.

Are people just not too excited about this one?
I gotta admit, I'm not. :-|
Well, you don't have to be excited about everything. ;)

This is a nice freebie, like every Arturia freebie in the last years.

Yeah, I've really liked all of Arturia's freebies going back to 2019.

This isn't bad, I guess. Reminds me a little bit of Caelum Audio Choric.
But I'm really more about Arturia's models of vintage hardware. That's what made me a fan.
Recently they've been moving away from that and more towards more modern sound design/mangling tools.
I know some people are really into that. I'm just not seeing where it would fit in with my music.

THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

This is a really nice bit o' kit. Most of the presets are more than a little bit unsubtle but I think it will work best when the effect is not so upfront. Mostly I think I'll be using the refraction and distortion, although one of the effects does a nice tape-stop when modulated, which could be handy now and then.

I like the built-in tutorial to get you started, too.

You’re reading way too much into this. It’s just that 2 events happend simultaneously by chance, basically forcing me to compare their holiday gifts, which left a melancholic taste.

But I realize I opened a can of worms I definitely didn’t want to open, so please let’s just end this here

Is this your way of initiating conversation? I've noticed lately you have a habit of interjecting negativity in a number of threads lately.

I agree, especially Pigments, I don't comprehend this plugin and wonder what it could be good for

Its good for making simple sounds more interesting, gives detailed control, and sounds good.

How CPU intensive is it?

I think that a second blend knob after the unison engine would allow it to be more subtle. The Harmonic effect in particular is great but very strong. It would be nice to be able to dial that in/back a bit more. Great plugin and you can't beat the price.

Well yes, I did want to see what other people thought about it. There had been relatively little discussion about it prior to my comment, particularly for a new freebie from Arturia.

Usually when something generates a lot of interest, it results in a lot of conversation. So my theory is it hasn’t generated that much interest. At least not as much as Arturia releases have tended to generate in the past.

If I’m feeling underwhelmed by it compared to previous years, then I bet other people feel the same. So I was curious if that was the case, which is why I asked.

If you're not excited about it, why bother trying to start negative conversations on it?

It's also just before Christmas so some people might be currently driving or in an airport somewhere too.

Arturia's Refract sounds pleasant to my ears and I look forward to including it in my music.

It is similar to the lofi plugin they offered some time ago in that I use it frequently but I don't really feel compelled to say much about it. It is a tool that works well and delivers a sound that fits certain music very well. But I don't need to have a 15 page discussion on it, because I'm not that bored.

I will say I agree with others here that I do wish it had more modulation controls and means to feather the sound, but I can work around that. I'm just glad they're moving into 'new' effects plugins and aren't stuck in just the rehashed vintage that everyone is doing. New flavor. And Arturia are still offering us whole plugins for free. That's really generous of them.

All of the reactions that were posted (before yours) were positive, some very much so. I think it's just that a lot of people haven't caught up to it yet (it did kind of sneak up).

Probably some people aren't into it, but those people are wrong
