I like to "limit" with compressors and careful mixing, and not rely on brickwall at all in the first place. But I have some track limiters I like, Loudmax is great in that capacity. I like Airwindows' Block Party as well. IKMM's Stealth Limiter is quite good for the kind of peak catching I might actually use, too, though I kinda feel like I f**ked up if I'm getting any clipping at that point before a limiter ever gets involved... For me, interesting limiters are more like character compressors. So like Vac Attack is quite cool for example, from Plugin Alliance, but I'm not really using it to limit so much as a colorful step that brings a considerable amount of heft where I put it.
Limiter No6 GE is my favorite end-of-mix dynamics toolkit. Its brickwall limiter is so-so sounding, but I never rely on it, and I love how every other part of it works at that point, great for just the right finishing touches.

I can't imagine needing another limiter. might be great for starters though, but I have too many limiters already.
In the end it is just a utility (for me at least) to avoid clipping. All that marketing mumbo jumbo doesnt phase me a bit anymore.
I'll stick to the SSL X-Limit / TC MD4 combo on the MB. With a touch of Softube Summit TLA-100 before. And Loudmax / Logic stock limiter on tracks.

Limiter #6 from TDR is a fixture on the 2 bus. Some times I use Tonebooster Barricade or Reapers Realimit stock limiter.
We jumped the fence because it was a fence not be cause the grass was greener.

I used the TC Brickwall HD limiter on about 30 hours of audio that I recently finished working on. Others that I tested were producing artifacts even though I wasn't pushing them very hard. The artifacts were infrequent and were largely due to the speakers microphone being close to overloaded (I think). Most limiters exaggerated the problem.

IK Multimedia Brickwall & Stealth limiters are my current limiters. Previous Waves L series and Melda assortments. I wanted IK limiters for knob control not sliders like in Waves or too many parameters like in Melda because it’s easier to volume manage in the IK for me.
I also used to have to rely on unsaturated maximizes and a low master gain when I did my strange Cubase mixes. I have to use the built in limiter in Live. My Live and Reason mixing is more normal.

Ozone 9
Though I just got KClip 3, so I'm looking forward to messing with it and seeing what it's like using a really good clipper before the maximizer in the mastering stage.

KClip 3 is quite very good (the GUI could be better) very versatile and sound is top notch.Mind Riot wrote: Tue Jan 02, 2024 11:39 am Ozone 9
