Hi,
I was considering buying sfz+ for gig support but apparently doesnt have it now... What samplers do you think would be the best and why?
(looking for sf2/gig samplers)

From wastin too much time here, I get the impression Kontakt is probably the most well respected. I do not use it.
You could consider VSampler to reduce your cost, but I do not know if it streams Giga files.

I like Kontakt because of its awesome effects and key-mapping power. It has more power than most people will ever use.rpc9943 wrote:*bump* any more guys? Im almost certain you guys have heavy opinions on this. What do you use and why

I like Intakt for its looping and rex2 importing.
So far my fav's are: Kontakt and HALion.
Currently I'm just using FLStudio's sampler so I'm not using either.

If I were you, I would jump into a time capsule, race back in time a few months, and get in on the sfz+ beta while it had giga support.
Failing that, I really like Kontakt for the mangling capabilities it has. These two are what I use, and I do not feel the slightest inclination towards looking elsewhere.

now short circuit freaking looked amazing, the demo. Maybe I'll familiarize myself with it. Do you guys think that sfz+ will ever get giga ever?

You can always use Extreme Sample Converter or CDXtract to convert from Giga format to sf2 format. You'll lose some capabilities, especially like Giga 3 features like the convolutions used to simulate piano harp resonance, and some other advanced features. But in general I find the conversions to work well.

The problem with Kontakt is that it does not allow for easy breezy cursor up/down flicking through sample libraries, like one would with a synth, just like you would on Logic' EXS24.
What I do love is that you can stack up multiple instruments with ease.., rather than load up multiple vsti's and over taxing the computer.
I would like to know too cause Im crossing platforms from Logic to (possibly) Ableton, still looking for a sampler that would replace the EXS24MKII with its modular capabilities and ease of use.

a gig 2/3 -to- sfz converter would be ideal.

Extreme sample converter translates from Giga to sf2 and to sfz format.
For 40 euros it may be the solution, instead of paying $150 - 200 or more for a sampler.
I don't know how good the translations are and, as has been mentioned, you will loose some of the Giga formats features.
Or there is the basic Giga sampler thet I think sells for $150.

Extreme Sample Converter is a great tool. It's also the best loop editor I've seen, for those who build or tune sample sets. You can demo it, but it truncates the samples to 8 bits or something, so the resulting conversions don't sound like they should. This makes it a little harder to see whether it really does a good job of converting filters, etc.
Another great tool is CD Extract, also affordable. Without registering, it will convert the first preset in any file without any degradation.
