Xfer Cthulu seems to be winning at the moment with me after a couple of hours demoing a few of the before mentioned especially on the chord feature,im actually quite mindblown on how good it is ,it doesn't automate parameters though?(or am I wrong)?

Yeah, Cthulhu is good for chords. If you want to generate interesting melodies, get Riffer.

Post

I like Riffer as well, but use all the HY-Plugins sequencers too.

Post

- 510k Seqund (polymetric, probabilistic, powerful, fun, great UI)
- HY-Plugins stricto sensu
- Sugarbytes Thesys (chords, pitch shift shapes, effects to influence the pattern, good UI)
- Stepic (deep)

(not mentioning the ones I use for drums: Sugarbytes Drumcomputer, Beat Scholar, Hornet hATEFISHrhygenerator...)

+1 for Stepic. purchased this about a week or so ago. love it. Cthulhu is also good.

I recommend downloading HY-Plugins’ 4 Sequencer Bundle; try them all. They seem like a labor of love to me.

Stepic is very powerful... I find the workflow tedious and over time my use of it faded. It's not fast or fun.

I have the opposite experience. I never came up with sequences faster than with stepic. To be fair, I create in the realm of techno adjacent genres so I rarely need to go beyond 16 step for any pattern.

That's why it's good there are a variety of tools to choose from :tu:

At this point I think this is where AI really excells. It may take some set up but once it has learned what you are after....you coyld generate a library in minutes. Then choose randomly.

Do any of you write exclusively using various VST sequencers within a modular environment IE Bidule?
I'm thinking of doing this for a change of pace. It's too bad there aren't more options for stripped down modular hosts.

Worth having a look at the free Stochas sequencer which is developed by the team behind Surge. Good demo by Venus Theory here :

I've done that mainly in hardware...

explored it a bit in iOS too with AUM and Drambo plus a few other tools.
