We strive to strike a balance between offering affordable solutions and sustaining the long-term viability of our software.
Striving, but not quite achieving. I won't be paying that price.
Until forever fades away.

I'm not a musician so my lead playing is weak. Musicians hate crutches of support in music. I just rely on features and presets to be productive in a good way usually I also like to patch my own patches on a occasion.

It's all easy for me I just can't focus enough to patch modular's fast or my own presets. DiscoDSP is a great company.
Technically better? Let me hear the original NL patch 0.90 played on Discovery 8,
it relies on the FM. It does not sound the same or better last i tried it. The filter arent the same either, filter has steps and isnt as smooth when moving cutoff very fast?

It’s called an upgrade. The companies do what they can to make money including many upgrades all the time. I look forward to testing the preset browser. Hope up and down keys can work to select presets.

are you aware of how this thing costs? 169 new (was 149 until v.7).
75 for just the update, 45% of the full price. And we have already paid for it and previous updates (which were cheap).
I crossgraded form Discovery for just 39...

so, you say that a 75 update for a 149 (now 169) plugin is reasonable?

I’m in the market for it. From what I learned the type of buyers who would enjoy DiscoDSP synths are hardware lovers. I recently paid $69 for 1 of my Tone2 software upgrades and I find Tone2 products great as a high quality hardware similar plugin. Omnisphere has a way different market than Tone2 or Disco. It’s way more specialist to fans of tricky to design presets and loads of features + it’s multitimbral so a bigger upgrade fee is fair for it.

There’s a guy or girl on KVR who’s nick I forgot who makes Nord Lead songs he shares sometimes that influenced my initial Discovery buy when it was on sale. Also I just love that special “Nord” sound as a previous Nord Modular owner. And NM G2!

That quite nails what was thinking when I read about the price tag. I don't think I might justify more than half of that for the upgrade - no matter how much I like what the're doing.

cnt wrote: Mon Jan 01, 2024 6:15 pm Dont want to be rude but can it do the exact FM modulation behaviour and sound as NordLead 1 and 2?
Ive owned all versions of NordLeads but never found 'that' sound and timbre in any VST.
Tried Discovery back when it was released... years and years back. It was a good synth but it did not sound like a Nordlead even though it could import patches via sysex.
Did DiscoDSP work at the emulation part at all during the years?
Ofcourse they did not , everyone who says it sounds like a nord lead is just plain deaf( yes you zero cross)
Discovery is still based on 2 decades old dsp code by arguru ,+ some new zdf filters .
It.s fascinating how disco-dsp is still selling the same product over and over again ,some fancy gui to lure in the most gullibe and charge 70.€ upgrade .
Remarkable
Eyeball exchanging
Soul calibrating ..frequencies

Discovery is just for computer lovers who prefer .fxb preset storage or whatever proprietary preset type their favorite other plugins use I think and prefer a fully *integrated* set of software and plugins. The type of person to only crave hardware doesn’t feel put off by multi track audio file recording for all I know and can’t stand computers. I prefer my wires where I can reach them in a GUI not all the MIDI and audio cables. I think software is promoted as something like a cheap toasted morsel and a flat bubbly beverage compared to the opposite but did you ever do something like listen to Moogs newish Moog One on YouTube? It doesn’t have demos as good as software or vintage gear & it’s $8000 dollars. The demos aren’t a judge of what you can do but if I ever buy hardware I want a clever demo. Some of the best demos are Native Instruments IMO. Almost all the hardware & hardware emulation synths have unclever demos. Go figure.

There’s a reaktor ensemble that sounds very nord-like for some sounds. Not a Nord replacement but close for many things. It’s old and free in the user library. I’ve owned a NL2x and currently own a NL3r. Discovery Pro fits in there somewhere but is not a replacement for a nord either.

I love to read this thread sometimes to view how being played for a suck€r for real looks like nowadays. It’s always funny. :D
