Awesome choice. The LA-3A is the only plugin that I regret buying from UA. I recently used the Massive Passive on about 30 hours of speech and it sounds truly beautiful. I imagine it would be superb for vocals and guitar at the very least.Yep, no more need for trying out other plugs. I'm getting me a Massive Passive to go with the Distressor, and I'd call that $75 (with coupon) money very well spent in my musical journey. Both of them are going to get a LOT of use, especially the Massive Passive.
School me on the UAD Distressor plugin

Excellent choices both distressor and massive passive are tools for life. I've had them years and they're used all the time.Mind Riot wrote: Sun Dec 31, 2023 4:03 pm Whoa man. I just demoed the Massive Passive out of curiosity.
Boosting one band on the thing took all the harshness off a cymbal I'd been struggling with instantly. I matched settings with what I had going for an electric guitar on another EQ, and it did the job with more roundness, smoothness, and heft.
Almost everywhere I put the thing it solved problems or just improved things in instantly noticeable ways.

Thanks for sharing your insights and experiences, everybody! It was all very helpful.
Anyone else have UAD's version of the Massive Passive? Experiences? I'm just blown away by the sound of this thing. I remember when Pulsar put out their version and I gave it a try, and I just did not connect with it like I did this one. However, I was using monitors then; now I'm using VSX, maybe I'm hearing more detail.
EDIT: Holy crap! I had a $25 coupon, but UAD has a gift code for $25 running today, and I figured the gift code would be invalid due to my coupon, but they stacked! So the Distressor and the Massive Passive for $49 total. What a steal!
Tips for massive passive would be learning how the curves interact and also the differences between mastering and standard versions. They are quite different and it can be confusing until you remember.
Try them on noise and also try a visual analyser to see what they're doing

Guess I'd better shell out some more coin for a plugindoctor license. I know it's worth it, I've just spent more than I intended or really could even afford on plugs and gear during this years' whole Black November/Friday/Cyber Monday/Holiday sale already.

UA plugins have a steep roll off at 19KHz. PluginDoctor is fun for figuring out things like that.Mind Riot wrote: Wed Jan 03, 2024 12:16 am Guess I'd better shell out some more coin for a plugindoctor license.

It's because prior to these fire sales their sole audience was a bunch of old mixing and mastering guys who can't hear that high anyways
