Hi, i'm using Expose 2 (mastering the mix) to determine the short term loudness of my music library and then adjust the loudness of the tracks using Audacity. For 90% of the songs this is perfect. Some songs however have very loud parts that take a few seconds, which results in a high short term loudness, but low integrated loudness.

I've searched all over the internet, but no application exists where a user can choose their own duration on which the loudness analysis is based on. I've read that maximum short term LUFS is based on the average of the loudest 3 seconds, but I would like it to be based on the average of the loudest 5 or maybe 10 seconds. I know its not a "standard" if i work this way, but i'm not interested in meeting standards, i'm interested in meeting my "needs" and that is to have a most coherent music library volume-wise.

The downside of using integrated loudness really is that quieter songs can have parts that will be louder than a loud song just to compensate for the low average loudness.

Is there some development going on that will be of interest to be considering the above? Anyone with the same challenge? Would like to hear it!

Thanks and all the best wishes for 2024!

Would a graphing LUFS meter help? I do not know of any that allow changing of the I/S/M time intervals. If time based graphing would work for you, the obvious choice is Youlean.

I have been looking into LUFS metering as well and haven’t seen anything like this. Curious to see if anyone knows of something

I can suggest the free TB Pro dpMeter5 that have the option to measure LKFS in DIAL mode and the option to set the Short term Loudness window for LKFS. This will provide the option to set any Short term Loudness window between 10 - 99999 ms.

LKFS is to my knowledge based on same K-weighted filter curve as LUFS and will provide same reading if same reference level and Short term Loudness window is set.
I also tested and confirmed this by comparing a LUFS instance of dpMeter5 to a LKFS instance of dpMeter5 with 3000 ms Short term Loudness window that will provide exact same reading if both REF LEVES's are set to same.

Well, it would only work in an app that scans a file in a few seconds. Otherwise it would be too time consuming. Mastering the Mix already replied that they "are afraid this is not something they can provide", which seems strange as it would just be changing 1 variable, right?
