pfffff, f*ck being neutral.
I imagine that most of the people commenting in this thread are owners of V7, so we use the synth, we have it in our toolbox, we'd like to stay updated and continue using it. It has lots of presets, sounds great, and the red Nord skin is nice.
I don't know about you, but when I imagined V8, it wasn't this $75 lazy-ass collection of minor improvements to already existing synth components. As it stands right now, V8 is absolutely not worth the update price, and in my opinion, definitely not a must-have purchase. If it's such a drastic improvement to the sound (THE thing version 8 is all about apparentley), I'd like to hear it. This is a major version update with a major version update price, but with minor level "enhancements" and nothing really new.
Anyway, so there are supposed to be some new presets in here.
@DiscoDSP, in case you didn't see the first time I asked this - how many new presets? Where can I find them? There are 99 banks in V7, 99 banks in V8. Where are the new presets?
Disk mode is another "new" thing.
As far as I can tell, Disk mode just gives you quick access to patches by type - unless I'm missing something else. So selecting disk mode/LEAD for example, brings up over 700 LEAD patches in one huge browser window in which you have to scroll to access all the ones that don't fit on your screen. Not exactly user-friendly, bruh.
I threw my money at Vengeance for V2 of Avenger. I'm not paying $75 for this.
"Additionally, we have consistently updated version 7.x for nearly four years, showing our commitment to product longevity." - DiscoDSP
My AI Robot said it way better:
"We also want to assure you that, just like with version 7, we plan to deliver multiple free updates in the future. These updates will not only address any issues that may arise but will also introduce new features and enhancements to further enhance your musical experience. We believe in maintaining a strong relationship with our users and providing ongoing value without additional charges for minor updates."

I just demoed v8 for 20 minutes and think the update should be free to previous buyers because the main difference in the upgrade is legitimate preset scanning from what i can tell.modularg2 wrote: Mon Jan 01, 2024 5:31 pm Your updating price policy is Ridicoulous and outrageous for loyal costumer...Goodbye DSP
The preset scanning put me off from using v6 & v7 I owned so I'm not sure what the new preset features offer the old ones didn't. If there are some great feature upgrades in a future v8.+ version I might buy the upgrade when the features come. I don't like the ring modulation at all in Discovery and the filters are a weakness but there is some quality worthiness to it to me.

We fully understand the importance of affordability for our customers. To address this, we frequently offer sales tailored to our loyal customer base. This strategy reflects our dedication to balancing value with the high quality of our products.
The release of Discovery Pro 8 showcases a remarkable improvement in sound quality over the past decade. Our commitment to product evolution is evident in the nearly four years of continuous updates to version 7, underscoring our focus on product longevity and enhancement.
While we value all feedback, it's crucial to remember that our core users might have differing opinions. We're aware of KVR's unique environment, where alongside genuine users, some individuals may prefer competing products or participate for amusement. This diversity of viewpoints, along with limited moderation, serves as a reminder that the opinions expressed here may not fully represent our broader customer base. That's why we recommend contacting us directly instead.
Finally, we are confident in the advanced sound enhancements introduced in Discovery Pro 8 and encourage those who appreciate these developments to consider upgrading. However, we respect the diverse priorities and financial considerations of our customers and assure you that our previous versions will continue to deliver excellent performance for those who opt not to upgrade at this time.

D16's Lush 1 > 2 upgrade was €45 incl VAT and I had to think quite hard about that price (and i kind of expected 29 -39 tbh)

If the current pricing of Discovery Pro 8 update is a concern, we encourage you to keep an eye out for our sales. We regularly offer promotional discounts for our existing customers, as a way to make our products more accessible.

it is up to discodsp to price their product how they see fit ofc.
it is also up to the customers to buy/upgrade or not.
In this particular situation I wont be upgrading 100EU incl taxes is just too steep.
Also: where are the comparison audios to decide if it is really a step up.
I did like the direct VA sound coming from v7 BTW, grew up on those VAs like Nord/Nova/Q etc.
But remember, those were cheap alternative to the, then already started, hype of the classic analogs.
Only with added midi / presets and weight benefits.

Sorry for interjecting; do you have an A/B comparison to back that up? Because if you haven't you should really make one; what you wrote can be a big factor for an existing user to decide if they want to upgrade or not.discoDSP wrote: Wed Jan 03, 2024 9:20 am The release of Discovery Pro 8 showcases a remarkable improvement in sound quality over the past decade.
Otherwise, it sounds an awful lot like Apple's "We just made the best/fastest/thinnest/cleanest [thing] ever."

Thank you for your suggestion. We've indeed made significant changes in the DSP that confidently support our claims.

Is the year of the big fail towards our user base.
Bitwig, wave, minimal, UAD.

To be fair, if you are talking about Bitwig offering paid rack devices outside of the update plan, they did listen to the feedback and back down completely.charlesalbert wrote: Wed Jan 03, 2024 10:59 am Is the year of the big fail towards our user base.
