I haven't noticed much overlap -- SS2 is so immense that it's hard to catch the dups! Would be interesting to hear from Squids hisse'f on this.

About a gig and a half are from SS1 as "legacy" sounds and actually they have a whole new life as potential combi elements too. But, since it is an 8.5 gig library that's only about 1/8th. Considering you get half PRICE (limited time) as an upgrade I think it is an exceptional deal. To be honest, I wouldn't have done it this way if I knew that it was going to be this large and this different. Originally we DID plan to have all of SS1 in there and the whole thing was going to be around 5 gigs. But, we changed our minds and went all out instead! ;) :D Problem is... we didn't change the price to reflect that difference. But, I figure it'll serve itself well in the long run in a competiting marketplace. It's fun having a product that sets a new standard for VFM.

Some of you guys will probably be getting your SS2 this week (as I saw quite a few go out the door today). I can't wait to see some reviews and user demos too. This is getting exciting!

Oh and there's a cool announcement about SS2 coming around New Year's day. Something fun!

One eighth of the current crop -- no wonder the overlap's so hard to spot. Thanks.

1/8 to 1/7 more or less. But, that's just in terms of sample content. In terms of patches there were about 400-500 patches with the original Sonic Synth 1 and there are over 5,800 patches in the new Sonik Synth 2. So, really, there shouldn't even BE an upgrade as you are really getting your money's worth at $399 for the full thing whether you owned Sonic Synth 1 before or not. However, our style is to reward those that have supported us in the past as much as possible. We'll be seeing that more and more I think as it's just going to get better when you see what's next. :D

I've been trying to make some of my own combinations. How do you change the midi channel in a combination? Are combinations created in Sonik Synth 2 usable in Sample Tank XL? What I would like to be able to do, is make combinations that could be played on two keyboards, for instance, make a combination which would have a layered piano on my 88 key controller on channel 1, and have layered organ on my 61 note controller on channel two. How would I do this?

SS2 is still in transit so don't know the answer but - this sounds like something that should be done by the host. eg In Tracktion you could just put each keyboard input to a different track and run 2 instances. I wouldn't expect a plug-in to provide that sort of functionality.

You can change the MIDI channel that a part responds to by clicking on the number in the MIDI channel column and dragging.

I haven't tried it, but I think they should be compatible.

No problem. Set one MIDI keyboard to send on channel one, and the other to send on channel two. Use your host to route the MIDI data from bothe keyboards to ONE instance of SS2. Make sure your host is not overriding the MIDI channel number of the incoming notes.

Then simply load layers in SS2. Any layers you want the first keyboard to play, set to MIDI channel one (as described earlier in this post). Any layers you want the second keyboard to play, set to MIDI channel two.

Alternatively, you can use two instances, but then you'd have to save the two presets separately. If you use just one instance (as I described), you can save the setup for both keyboards in one preset.

Hope that helps.

Forever,

Kim.

Thanks jeez, and what you described is exactly what I needed to know,,, thanks! This is incredibly powerful. I need to get ST XL,,,

Is it possible to use a program change to load a new combination?

One more question,,, will we benefit from more memory to load larger combinations?

I hate to ask, but...how limited a time? I just would like an idea of how long an auction time to set for my children on eBay to raise funds to buy it.
Three shall be the number of the counting

And the number of the counting shall be three.

It could be as little as just a few more days if it ends December 31. But, it could go on for another month possibly too. I am not sure yet. It is not entirely up to me. It depends on a few things. To be safe you may want to auction off your kids now. ;) :D Just kidding. Even if it did end on New Year's you know we'd honor it for at least another week for you guys. But, there IS a decent possibility it will run until mid January anyway or possibly to the end of the month. Then the upgrade will go up just a little bit. However, even at that time the existence of the upgrade may not be permanent. My guess is that it will be around for 3-4 months and possibly longer. It depends. If a lot of people are upgrading then it could make it hang around longer but it is a more difficult upgrade to administer than the usual authorization-based upgrades that are automatic. This one is way more paperwork. But, that's why only SR is doing it through esoundz.com (although the crossgrade is different because there ARE authorizations to reference for the qualifiers and that may possibly be available from participating IK dealers as well as IK and SR).

If you qualify for the upgrade because you own Sonic Synth 1 then I would strongly consider upgrading while it is available and while it is this cheap. It really is worth it. You get a lot more bang for the buck from the whole thing that way if you do the math (from what you originally paid and what you could get the upgrade for).

We'll see. It's not just up to me. It depends on a few things. We'll probably keep it for at least a couple more weeks.

Ok, I hope it's still that price when I am all ready
