running two virus ti snow on macos mojave

hello.

I currently have a virus ti snow running on macos mojave through the virus control vsti.
I am considering buying a second snow, so my question is, have any of you used two at once in ableton live or other sequencer? can i load two instances of the virus ti snow vsti ?

I've never tried it since switching to Mac, but I do know that when I owned two TI2s (desktop and 61) with my Windows computers many years ago, the documentation clearly stated that only one instance could be used at a time and I think I probably tried to do it anyway (I don't remember, to be honest), but the bottom line is that it couldn't be done. I'm now using the Aura (previously Mystery Island) editor with my Polar TI2. I assume it will only allow a single instance, but I'm really not sure, so that may be something to look into.

The aura plugins is something i am really not into. I have bought a license some years ago and never got along with it. Also, i want usb audio.

You can prolly use two aura plugins, thought. It's just midi. each plugin will just have to have a different machine id to work.

I have just tried the snow and the ti2 at the same time. it works, but there are different vsti for each synth, so this is not conclusive. when i try to add a second snow vsti instance (without having a second unit) i get the following msg:

" You are already running instances of virus control allocating all connected virus ti snow devices"

The use of the plural gives me some hopes.

No. Using the virus control vsti. Dunno if you remember, but there are two different vstis.

Oh yes, I do recall that now because it always installed the snow VST as a separate plugin.

Getting back to your earlier comment, the Aura editor should stream audio over USB. I actually don't use it that way, since I run the audio out of the Virus' SPDIF output and directly into my interface, so I can't vouch for the USB audio, but it's supposed to work. I also prefer to use my Virus in Single mode, rather than Multi mode, but the Aura interface doesn't allow that, which is pretty frustrating to me (and a topic for a different discussion).

Also, from the YouTube v3.0 announcement: "Access Virus Editor version 3.0.0 build 9019 comes with Native AAX, Audio Unit, VST2, VST3 and Standalone Application for macOS and Windows. Full version of the Editor comes with macOS USB MIDI Driver which allows Virus TI users to use USB Audio & MIDI stream with the latest macOS."



That said, Aura does not make the most stable or reliable software, so I have no idea how well it actually works, and they're well known for having absolutely terrible customer service (I've messaged them more than once regarding other products and have never received a reply).

Impressive, didnt see that one coming. Like you said mystery island and aura software was never reliable, so lets see. in the mean time access replied to my ticket:

"Technically yes (it is possible to use two snow vstis using two virus units), but it depends on whether the computer has enough USB bandwidth to do so."

I'm not sure if I'm more surprised that it might work, or that they replied to you.

I guess the question is, will the v3 of the Aura plugin work over USB on Mojave, since it says "Compatible with latest macOS..."? If so, I might give it go, since my music computer is still on Big Sur.
