Imagine if Urs was like "Zebra 4 - nothing really new, but we've improved the existing filters, no new oscillators, but ours are like 10 times bigger now, no new effects but our distortion is a lot better! That's it! We have no demos. Just trust us bro. $75 please and thanks."
This is why U-he is U-he and DiscoDSP is DiscoDSP.

The purpose of the Discovery Pro 8 demo was to showcase the new sound engine, not to provide a direct comparison...

We don't do direct product sales, but our resellers at https://www.discodsp.com/resellers/ might. However, it's very likely our existing customers will get a sale this spring.

Lol! I guess I need to work on my sarcasm—it’s too subtle to be noticed at times!JamminFool wrote: Wed Jan 03, 2024 3:33 pmlet's see...audiojunkie wrote: Wed Jan 03, 2024 2:50 pm
Add up all of major updates that have been released between the last major version and now, and you will see the value![]()
nope. didn't work.

(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

Because they must keep control while thinking "okay : we now have to make profit from this 17 y-o synth, as is, that’s our job you understand ? Could you please all shut the f### up while we’re doing our best ?!?"

My honest thinking is that this synh would probably be a no-brainer at $39 or so. It’s a very, very old soft synth, with a meh but recognizable sound (and this always brings something to a mix), and it should never be priced anywhere near the flagship products that came after and offer way more for the same price or even lower. For this price you can get one (or two if you wait) modern emulation everybody’s talking about or a modern powerhouse with granular and resampling and oscillators galore.
I’ll buy Discovery Pro when it’s priced like it should be : a legacy software.
At the moment I can buy whatever I want. And I don’t buy Discovery Pro, simply because of its price tag. This synth might find its use in my colllection, I remember liking some of the presets, but the price is simply crazy for what you get. I hope for you that most users don’t think just like me.
Sorry, just a honest opinion. You’re free to care or not.

Oh really it is?discoDSP wrote: Wed Jan 03, 2024 6:38 pmAnd just to clear up a common misconception – adding 10 times higher waveform data doesn't necessarily equate to 10 times better sound. The world of DSP is a bit more complex than that.
But why do you use that example as marketing hype then?

Oh Lord they’re explaining their own upgrade is not worth the price...Hans25 wrote: Wed Jan 03, 2024 9:22 pmOh really it is?discoDSP wrote: Wed Jan 03, 2024 6:38 pmAnd just to clear up a common misconception – adding 10 times higher waveform data doesn't necessarily equate to 10 times better sound. This is pretty bizarre.
As bizarre as me logging in into DiscoDSP user area sometime in 2019 and finding out that I needed to have a "cloud service" (29 EUR "only") in order to download product I have previously purchased (Discovery Pro, back in 2014).
I sent an email to support, never got any reply and simply raged out promising to myself that I'd never, ever pay for something like that or buy other products from them.
Came back few months later to find the usual user area, apparently the 'cloud service' did not really work out. Whatever it was.
Apparently my promise to not buy anything else from them is going to be a real easy one to fulfill...
