Yes, let’s clarify this first.

I’m a former customer. Am I allowed to post ? :D

discoDSP wrote: Thu Jan 04, 2024 11:21 am Thanks for pointing up. To clarify:

Previous update price: From $149, around $100 discount.
Current update price: From $149, around $75 discount.

Discount has decreased by approximately 25-30%.
So how come I've got a Paypal receipt for the 6.9 -> 7.0 update on 4th May 2020 that says just 9 Euros ?! :scared:

Probably a sales promotion.

going from 49 to 75 is +53%
from 39 to 75 is + 92%
I rounded to 50 and 40 respectively, in favor of the developer here. ;)

High prices probably is from all the open source stuff he uses. He probably pays royalties to the developers which code he sells.

How many receipts do you want? I've got quite a few. :D
I will take the Lord's name in vain, whenever I want. Hail Satan! And his little goblins too.

I've got receipts too - vertigo, discopro, bliss, corona.

I've fallen off the update wagon for bliss (mainly because of other sampler options, update just a bit too steep to be tempting but realistically, I'd rather just focus on the other stuff I've got for quick and dirty sampling).

for discopro, I bought direct (as with the other plugins) at v5 and updated consistently from there, including the diversion into "cloud service". but now I'm at the point where I probably won't bother installing on the new M2 machine not just because the update price is surprisingly steep but also the unpredictability that goes with discodsp update options. a good few times it's been free, so that's nice. but it's the sudden curveballs that George throws every once in a while, like the cloud subscription wheeze, that just makes me think "y'know, I'm not that bothered about a Nord clone even though it do sound nice. I've got other stuff that sounds just as good so maybe I'll focus on that". maybe it shouldn't make a difference but at the historical average for update prices, I'd probably just go "sod it, take my money". right now, I can't even be arsed to install the current version.

By the way, getting back on topic, Discovery Pro 8.1 for Linux is now available.

We want to test it a bit before making an official announcement, so feel free to test it and report your findings at https://www.discodsp.com/download/?id=1.

I'm not a customer, but I am a shopper that has had some interest in some of these products. (Mainly Vertigo. And mostly because of having Linux versions.) I originally turned off of the whole company because of a lack of transparency in update pricing where I had to contact support to get a direct answer. This attempt at increasing transparency and using "spin math" that actually makes it feel more like a grift is quite counter-intuitive to anyone other than a "easy-mark".

So I went ahead and downloaded the new version demo and have to agree with others that hear no real difference. And still no real preset browser.

The last few pages have shown me the irony in an tone deaf instrument developer.
So yes, I still find no reason to be a customer.

Maybe get your AI to stop taking lessons from Wusik and learn more from u-He before entrenching its machine learning into a cul-de-sac.

Okay, thanks for your dismissive opinion, but right now we're looking for feedback on the Discovery Pro 8.1 Linux build.

You know, you should consider starting your own off-topic thread for these remarks if you're unable to discuss Discovery Pro constructively. I understand it's fun for some to waste time criticizing someone who works for a company, but remember, our patience also has limits.

Honestly, when I accepted the job and was told about the challenges, I never imagined they'd be this intense, so apologies about any harsh tones.

Back on topic, we are looking for feedback on the incoming Discovery Pro 8.1 Linux:

The problem is that many users tried, at least right after the announcement, and we got no real answer.
I see two problems here: 1) the update price is very high and 2) the new features are suspiciously minimal (sorry, the 2x/4x better calculations don't cut it)

If you think about it, most of the people who complained here, including me, are actually users who really like Discovery Pro and would like to support DiscoDSP and contribute to its development.
However, you can't disregard those who say 8.0 isn't worth what you're asking. I haven't tried the demo myself as I don't want to mess up my install but those who did couldn't hear a difference with 7.9.
Most users don't care about what's under the hood and all the DSP coding involved. They will upgrade if what they hear is better and if they can afford it.
I won't comment in this thread again but I'll keep an eye on the development of Discovery Pro.
Good luck with your synth.
