http://artkerns.com/midifiltrpg.html is a great midi utility to filter out notes using probability
Features...
Gate, Note and Sequencer modes
Gate is a flat % chance to let a note through
Note sets the % based on the note's pitch
Sequencer has an 8 step sequence of %s
Is simple but would be so handy if it could run as a Win vst.

thanks - Pigments has a good sequencer and arp but I cant find a way to use them as a filter for incoming notes like midigates does. Pigmenst seems more of a generator rather than a filterManuel_M wrote: Thu Jan 04, 2024 5:38 pm If you happen to have Pigments it should tick all those boxes and you can send Pigments‘ Arp/Sequencer output via MIDI output to any other virtual instrument.

Not sure exactly what you need, but if you not already have ha a look at feelyoursound and HY-plugins then it doesn't hurt to do so.

That is a cool looking filter. What DAW do you use? It could be recreated in a number of them. A VST option could be https://www.codefn42.com/notemapper/ - it allows you to set your probability of any note playing, but isn’t in a scale base, it’s per note. So you would have to set probability for every note of a piano roll, not just “any octave of [note]”. This only has the note chance ability, though, no probability sequencer or gate chance.
Lost in translation processing

Thaks for that suggestion - I have looked at notemapper and it is way too cumbersome for what I want - Stepic does a probability sequencer and gate chance (I think, I have done some exploring)skwrl wrote: Sat Jan 06, 2024 2:26 pm That is a cool looking filter. I use Reaper as my DAW and am now looking at writing one as a jsfx. Not something I am confident about at all but if I can then that will be incredibly useful as a skill for the future

midiProbability - Add probability-based effects to incoming MIDI events, optionally synced to host timeline.
Old plugin by Insert Piz Here.... can't remember how it works or how mouch options it has but if you want to try there's a webarchive link here.

thanks - I have used this for a long time - but is not at all the same as an individual note filter like midigates.Kr3eM wrote: Sun Jan 07, 2024 1:45 pm midiProbability - Add probability-based effects to incoming MIDI events, optionally synced to host timeline.

I have come back to codeFN42 Notemapper and even tho it is a bit clunky because of the interface - you cant edit multiple selections for example - it is still useable until I get something better
thanks to skwrl for mentioning it

A good way could be to do it in Plug Data. Its the ideal tool for more complex Midi mangling.
