A question to DiscoDSP. Not an attempt to flame (I seriously like Discovery PRO, I only disagree with the upgrade price tag and attitude to tell customers to wait for a sale that surely will come).
Anyways, the changelog claims:
Expanded Preset Library: Dive into a world of sonic exploration with our expanded preset library, filled with fresh and inspiring sounds.
Are these new sounds not in the current demoversion of v8, because it contains exactly the same banks like in my purchased version 7.9
The only thing i can find is a new folder called programs inside presets folder, but they look like the banks just batch-converted fxb to fxp and sorted by genre
Are these new ones exclusive to full version v8 owners or have i overseen something ?

re: the new presets: I've asked this question twice and discoDSP clearly do not want to answer.

I know it seems that I am playing both sides of the fence on this issue, but I am also trying to be fair. To be clear, I too have been frustrated by some of the controversial decisions this company has made over the years. The biggest ones have been: Going to challenge response authentication (on everything except Linux, which I use. Not using C/R on Linux kept me as a customer), dealing with that annoying AI speech instead of having a normal (real person) speech, and upgrades that don't seem to account to much. At the same time, however, George has been one of the few people that has supported Linux since the beginning. I have an use Bliss Sampler, and there aren't many sampler options on Linux. And finally, to be fair, one must consider all of the updates of the 7.x series. George has generally charged for major version upgrades. It's his software, and he is allowed to charge what he wants. Users can then decide if it is worth it or not. I have usually upgraded every other full version upgrade, to offset the costs Bliss Sampler costs for me, and to offset the meager updates. The thing here, is that everyone is seeing the tiny feature set of the Discovery Pro 8 (listed below), but hasn't considered the person who was in the 6.x series, and then upgraded to the 7.x series. If you make that consideration, it is fair that everyone note ALL of the updates of the 7.x series when considering what their purchase provided for them. I have listed all of them below so that everyone can think about it. Again, I'm not saying anyone has to agree with me. I'm simply saying that I suspect that some people haven't considered this. The features of Discovery Pro 8 only lists a few things right now, but remember there will be an 8.1, and 8.2, an 8.3, etc. that will be included in the price of moving to 8 series. Make your own decision--no pressure here.

I use a high resolution screen with my Linux system, and I didn't want to stay on VST2, when it is being done away with. These things alone made the change from the 6.x series, which I couldn't use because of the small gui, to the 7.x series worth while (if I would have purchased it). These were the highlights of the 7.x series for me:
Parameter refactor with enhanced automation and proper learn, touch and latch modes support.

ASIO support in Windows Standalone app.

Anyone who has followed DiscoDSP in the forums will know that I've had plenty of criticism for George & co. ...and I'm to old to give a crap about what anyone says about me.modularmoog wrote: Fri Jan 05, 2024 12:28 am It does not mean it seems you are playing on both sides. Thanks for that info... did not know those synths. Never heard about. Thanks for that info mate.
I notice ACE2 from U-HE is actually cheaper than the upgrade alone for Discovery Pro. I need to dive into that. If it also represents commitment to providing an cutting-edge technology like DisocDSP does, then i will check the horizon.

I know that you are being sarcastic, but I really do highly regard U-he (Urs) as a person and his company. If you want a great product that retains its value and sounds head and shoulders above others, U-he is the way to go. If only I could talk him into making a sampler........modularmoog wrote: Fri Jan 05, 2024 12:55 am Thanks for that info... did not know those synths. Never heard about. Thanks for that info mate.

Oh, I totally get your admiration for U-he and Urs! Their products are indeed top-notch. And hey, convincing Urs to make a sampler would be a game-changer! Imagine the magic he could work with that. Fingers crossed for some convincing arguments in the future!

Ha - no need, but thanks.
Also, I made a tiny mistake that won't affect the results but I'll repost later so I'm taking it down for a bit.

I'd be interested to see the results of the developer (or whoever has the account on here) attempting a blind preset test arranged by someone impartial.
Edit -
Although, I guess they'd still have tools to be able to analyse the audio and visually see something in it. So, never mind, wishful thinking!
