Hi:
Is there software available that will provide a chord progression to a solo
played on my guitar?
In otherwords I first record the guitar without a backing track and then import the audio file into the software?
Is there software that will provide a chord progression based on the audio file?

Does Rapid Composer import audio? Or just midi?

There are tools like Jammer Pro that can suggest chord progressions for a melody in midi.
- just repeat a press on a button and another suggestion comes up
But you have to convert your audio to midi first then. But many daws do that for you and there are plugins too that do that. Most of them are not polyphonic though. But pitch correction plugins usually generate midi too if you want that.
- Waves Tune, Melodyne etc
- been using Waves Tune to make midi from basslines, for notation purposes.
- extremely accurate with bends and everything

Scaler 2 maybe?
Scaler 2 can listen to incoming MIDI or audio data and detect the key your music is in. After this, it will suggest chords and chord progressions that will fit with your song. Scaler 2 can send MIDI to a virtual instrument in your DAW, and it has 45 onboard instruments to play with as well.

The chord detection software are not that accurate. They also make mistakes.
Try ChordPulse demo for 15 days. You can place any type / number of chords in the timeline, listen, play your guitar and export the chord to your daw. That will be more accurate and let you learn alternatives.
