Au contraire , it’s the yamaha way ( overall output divided/ nr of carriers ) that prevents clipping
I think everyone adjust sounds by ear , just saying tha ops7 is the as close as it gets to the real deal

Is there a reason the synth is monophonic in MPE mode?

Its polyphonic here (Just had fun playing some sliding chords here on my linnstrument). Not sure how you end up with mono unless Monophonic is specifically set in A and B tabs? EDIT - even this is bypassed with MIDI Mode - MPE on top right of the UI. Not sure what is happening here.

David, still eagerly awaiting Emulating the DX7 the HARD way part 2! :)

Looking for the crying Smilies and didn't find it. Making Part1 nearly killed me. Then another researcher fully analysed the OPS using decaps and wrote a 4 part article covering pretty much all I would say https://www.righto.com/2021/11/reverse- ... a-dx7.html
So I though it was a done deal. Apologies, its the second time I do this (first was with MacinTalk). I have a huge video to make for the C64 chipsynth, so already bracing myself.

I can send you a video or sound demo if you like. I tried using my iPad and Launchpad Pro Mk 3 as MIDI controllers. In Standalone, Renoise, Bitwig, and Studio One (Windows 11), I can only played one note at a time when MIDI mode is switched to MPE. This does not happen in the other Chipsynths

What would help is a MIDI file of you playing your ... complex MIDI source at this point. MPE is incredibly convoluted by itself, so there are a lot of variables involved.
[EDIT] Bonus if you can try out the .mid file in your DAW to work polyphonically with other chipsynths. OPS7 indeed treats MPE differently than other chipsynths due to the weirdness of its firmware emulation.

Cheers

Ok thanks! I will try it. The MPE mode in OPS7 works weirdly with the new firmware too.

I feel kind of stupid asking this but does anyone know how to get the mod wheel to modulate the level of an operator? I can’t figure it out

Method #1 (more flexible):
- Go in the "MATRIX" tab
- Add a new modulation
- Set CC 1 (MIDI/CC 0-31/CC 1) as source
- Set "Level (live)" (A~B/Operator 1~6/Extended/Level (live)) as destination
- Make sure "params" (in the top right corner) is set to "Extended"

Method #2 (does not work with patches that use tremolo but works with yamaha breath controller patches):
- Go in the "MATRIX" tab
- Add a new modulation
- Set CC 1 (MIDI/CC 0-31/CC 1) as source
- Set EG Bias (A~B/Patch/EgBias) as destination
- Go into your patch tab (A or B), pick the oscillators you want to modulate, set the Modulation Sensitivity (M.Sens) to 3.

Thanks, method 2 is exactly what I was trying to do but I couldn’t figure it out

Think I found a bug
When step editor is set to Sync note , the speed of it should vary according to the note-pitch pressed , which it doesn't

Hmm work fine here. Maybe I need your exact patch to reproduce.
The only time it doesn't work is if you set top right Params to Classic (SYSEX), but then the whole target just does nothing, Note, or internal or host wont matter.

Hmm that's weird
It's just an init patch( obviously in advanced mode ) controlling output gain of a modulator or carrier (this example )

Here's a screenshot of just one carrier which output is controlled by a step sequencer set to note mode ( envelope full sustain )
The interval-timing is exactly the same across 4 octaves
Perhaps it's because I am still on 1.007 ?

v1.007 February 3rd 2022

(looking at code commits, this was fixed February 2023)
