I wouldn't classify Valhalla as "beautiful" either but disregarding aesthetics, it's more functional. It's very easy to see at a glance where each knob is pointed relative to its range (if you squint and look at the pictures, you can still see how VVV is set up). The numeric printout is below the knobs, which means it stays in the same place as you move the knob. In Galactic, the numbers turn with the knobs. The numbers are also kind of small. Valhalla fits more knobs, more information and with a larger font into the same space without making it look cluttered. The subtle color grading makes it even easier to differentiate the different blocks. Another great feature which isn't shown in the screenshot is the small description that pops up (at the bottom of the window, where it isn't in the way of anything) when you mouse over elements.v1o wrote: Fri Jul 01, 2022 10:04 am Beauty's truly in the eyes of the beholder. I dont see how people can really like how Valhalla DSP looks but dislike Galactic?

Those are all subtle things and it's not like Galactic is impossible to use, it just means that Valhalla is slightly more pleasant to work with.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

I've actually had you blocked for a very long time because of your proclivity for pointless and quite frankly ineffective arguments. I only see your notifications when you quote me....like now.briefcasemanx wrote: Fri Jul 01, 2022 7:00 pm I'll let you have the last word because I have important things to do. I won't read your reply, so you'll be typing a response to literally no one. Have a good one.
I simply gave my opinion on the plugin after trying the demo and then you felt the need to push back, hence starting an argument.
You have such "important things to do" you felt the need to start then prolong yet another one of your senseless arguments.
So do us both a favor....and I know you'll read this....please stop quoting me so we can both have some peace and quiet. Thanks......
Plain and simple I don't like the GUI of this reverb. If that triggered anyone then that's out of my control but I offer no apologies since I didn't insult anyone for their opinions.
Like I said before if I liked the sound of the plugin I would buy it despite my unfavorable opinion of the GUI but I simply do not. I have far better sounding reverbs whose appearance I do find appealing including free ones.
So on that note I'll leave the thread and wish the developer good luck with this release. It's just not for me....

Now bow down to the Annunaki gods like your Ancestors did and lets finally try out this Galactic Thing for the good of it.

If you'd like to try out some of the things that made my Galactic work and gives it its own 'multiverse', do what I did: look into feedforward reverb algorithms, specifically do a Householder matrix, but as feedforward instead of feedback. I got the idea from Casey of Bricasti, who talked about it quite openly the same way I'm talking about how my recent stuff including Galactic worksrsaintjohn wrote: Fri Jul 01, 2022 5:40 pmHi Chris, our apologies to you and all for any confusion that results from the Galactic Reverb name and your Galactic. Our plugin is a spinoff of the algorithm we added in Dreamsynth earlier this year which we called "Galactic," and the name stuck once we decided to break it out as a separate plugin. There is no relation between your work and code and our own. Although they may both sound spacey, a look and listen to your video indicates that the two go into different multiverses. If you have any concerns, drop me a message.jinxtigr wrote: Fri Jul 01, 2022 12:20 pm If it doesn't sound the same as my Galactic, it's just a name collision, and there are only so many deep space names to use. I would say don't worry about it, heck I've done Console plugins and another company put out a Console One and we both survived that![]()
These general concepts are free to all and you shouldn't have to look at my (MIT) open source code to do any of it, and it's pretty obvious we're not using even similar algorithms. Don't worry, you're fine. Namespaces gotta namespace.
Rather than fuss about it I should spend my time thinking up another kind of reverb (probably also feedforward: maybe a different Householder matrix?) and put that out. Suffice to say if anybody asks, Airwindows Galactic existed first and I'm not about to harass Cherry Audio over it. They're not claiming to have my plugin cloned exactly except they're selling it for $19… more

Thanks for this. Galactic sounds solid but not (inter?)stellar next to Blackhole. Going up against Eventide's finest algorithm is very tough competition though, and you have to consider the price difference.
I hear a density and singing resonance in Galactic that could cloud a mix very easily so I imagine you'll have to becareful with it. Slight VintageVerb vibes in that regard.
Personally I support what Cherry Audio are doing and I'm a reverb nutter, so I will definitely demo.
Nice playing by the way.
And nice to see Cherry and Airwindows being amicable

The knobs are ugly, but more importantly, it’s hard to see the positions. I think both problems could be solved by making them simple circles with a line to indicate the position and no other styling. Less is more.

Fully agree, and that's a recurring issue as far as I'm concerned.Arashi wrote: Sun Jul 03, 2022 12:18 am The knobs are ugly, but more importantly, it’s hard to see the positions. Trying out Miniverse I liked the sound but didn't buy because of the knobs. The white dot is microscopic and the knobs are hard to "read" unless I get to REALLY stare at them.
I already have that issue with the VM900 modules, and didn't want more of it with Miniverse.
I like Cherry Audio. I spent almost $500 on their software, but I really wish they'd take graphic design more seriously on many of their products.
I bought Lowdown because I liked it overall but the GUI is also terrible on a functional standpoint.
A whole lot of wasted space and tiny controls with the "normal" zoomed-out view and if you use "focused" view, it gets excessively zoomed-in with some controls getting cropped out of the view.

Here's where the look comes from I think, AMS.

Messed around with it more. Usually I slap on reverb to already existing parts that I made, I'd say I do this like 85% of the time. I come up with a part, then imagine what type of space I want it in, then I find the reverb/delay/whatever out of my plugin cabal that seems to get closest to the space I previously imagine in my head.
This seems like the type of reverb that I wouldn't want that sort of workflow with. This is the type I think I'd slap on while I'm composing, because having this particular reverb applied while I'm noodling around seems to cause a lot of creative ideas to spring forth. It just creates its own mood.
