snatched pulsar mu because of this thread. it does that relaxed pillowy thing quite nice (m/s is cool too). personally i always found MJUC a bit grainy for 2bus
currently rotating between MDE stereo, fuse 25a and Mu on 2bus. one of those + a hint of cassiopeia hmm
Vari Mu comps. which one ?

I work with a mastering engineer who often enough uses Pulsar. Can't complain about the sonics, it can do some very nice things to a track.

Pulsar Mu is my fave, Fuse VCL-515 is the same kinda vibe to me, just a little brighter, a bit less functionality

Exactly why I had to put Iron aside. I wish they would update it with variable output gain as I like how it sounds.imrae wrote: Tue Dec 26, 2023 3:38 pm Kazrog True Dynamics gives a few interesting flavours; I also have IRON, a couple from Fuse Audio and the T-Racks Fairchild/Manley sims.
MJUC gets more use than the rest put together. Second place is Fuse VCL-864.
IRON gives me trouble with gainstaging; it is configured to do subtle compression with hot signals (for mastering). I find it has to be set quite extreme in order to get an obvious/exaggerated action on individual tracks at my usual levels. The stepped output gain makes volume matching difficult without an external tool such as Letimix gainmatch.

oh yeah, the ITA LA1B is a vari-mu too. That's smashing that thing, the Kazrog True Dynamics LA1B is my fave actually factually. Pretty simple to use that one. Gives helicopter basses some serious thump. Tightens everything up.
