Come by the Bitwig booth (number 10206) in Hall C of the Anaheim Convention Center to learn about what's new with Bitwig Studio and the recent 5.1 update. We're sharing the space with our friends at u-he to present CLAP, the new plug-in standard that we developed together.
See you at NAMM!

Sure, MOTU do not punish you for skipping DP upgrades, it's always $199, and I recall right Ableton bump you, but they don't double the price. Reason to upgrade from 2.5 to 11 was exactly the same price as if I had been upgrading all along. Cubase and Pro Tools are the absolute worst in terms of money grabs IMO. Bitwig are far from the worst, but IMO DP and Reason are the best. I wouldn't count nagware Reaper or hardware dongle Logic for obvious reasons.muzicxs wrote: Wed Jan 17, 2024 6:12 pmThe only thing I want to highlight is that some DAWs like Cubase make upgrades considerably more expensive when you skip a few versions. With Bitwig the price remains the same. So even if you wait 5 years, you still pay the same amount. For people on a budget this is an excellent way to incidentally update without breaking the bank.machinesworking wrote: Wed Jan 17, 2024 5:45 pm The point is to stay current over the course of the use of a DAW, Lives initial price means nothing, and the discounts on upgrades for bitwig don’t add up to being cheaper. Live is without a doubt cheaper, there’s no way around that without compromise.

That's pretty much the only reason I would want to go to Namm.SLiC wrote: Wed Jan 17, 2024 6:33 pmI don't think so- Bitwig are sharing a booth with UHE again (when is that Bitwig 'Suite' coming with UHE rack instruments)

Would be interesting to see what the u-he / Bitwig synergy is going to bring us. Looking forward to NAMM in general.SLiC wrote: Wed Jan 17, 2024 6:33 pm I don't think so- Bitwig are sharing a booth with UHE again (when is that Bitwig 'Suite' coming with UHE rack instruments)
Are there physical modelling synths in Ableton?

I agree! I don't like Steinberg's pricing, but I don't like the DAW either, so no problem theremachinesworking wrote: Wed Jan 17, 2024 6:37 pm Cubase and Pro Tools are the absolute worst in terms of money grabs IMO.
It's good to see other DAWs also don't punish people wanting to upgrade from old versions. Studio One also has a fixed upgrade price, if I'm not mistaken.

I just discovered there's an M4L big red button called, "Rage Quit."
Checkmate, Bitwig.

Checkmate, Bitwig.
I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better?

my license expired two days before the 5.1 beta cycle on October 22, 2022, but I'm still receiving updates. This is because bug fixes are included with the last licensed upgrade version. Additionally, BWS can be rented from Splice for $16 per month for 25 months this is equivalent to buying it/upgrading it during discounted periods for 2 years
btw. Cubase offers a similar rental plan for $16.99 per month for 34 months, which also includes all future updates...even better
Of course, it is possible to go and buy them for half price on the Sell & Buy, but who wants that

Cubase, easy choice

This isn´t true... at least it wasn´t from V12 to 13...xbitz wrote: Wed Jan 17, 2024 8:00 pm ...

I had rented V12 for 1 month to check it out properly and if I now have a look into renting Cubase 13 it says this: So means I have to pay additional 6 month x $16.99 = $101,94 for upgrading from V12 to V13...
Means if there is a paid upgrade for Cubase it´s not included in the normal RTO plan but paid seperately while for Bitwig I received all updates for free for all the time... what it actually says already on the splice Bitwig page:

Live Suite includes the AAS synths (Lounge Lizard, Chromaphone and String Studio). Unfortunately AAS has not evolved their DSP Algo's in 15 years. The AAS synths are still good tools, but they do not sound as natural as other recent modeling instruments. String Studio has some characteristics not in other synths.muzicxs wrote: Wed Jan 17, 2024 6:40 pm Would be interesting to see what the u-he / Bitwig synergy is going to bring us.
