What would you do if they started to put ads in daws?

The Front and Center Drama Queens In Our Lives (And Music)
After a commenter's post that included a Violent Femmes video (heard of them but never heard their stuff until then), I decided to play this 'Jesus Pose' song by Sound Garden (a tune I'm also relatively new to).
I thought, when hearing it and like I have before with other tunes, that there are a lot of 'drama queens', maybe with less of a cause, or at least more of a 'micro-cause', than, say, Jaz of Killing Joke, who seemed/seems to have larger-scale, more political reasons for the drama/screaming/growling/etc..
But ya, I guess we have microcosmic drama, like at home with loved ones or about-to-be-former loved ones, who might smash plates and slam doors as opposed to play the silent treatments, and then the macrocosmic drama, like at the State-political level.
And perhaps if we are going to have front-stage vocals in front of sufficiently-large audiences, we are probably going to have less the shrinking-violet types and more the drama-queens that can crank out the emotion-work and crocodile tears convincingly.

If they do I hope this music plays endlessly in the background.

FL Studio and Studio One kind of have ads already. That said they are pretty much out of sight and just for their own stuff. In those scenarios I don't mind and are probably welcome for some users.Nathanananan wrote: Thu Dec 14, 2023 12:40 am Say all the daws went free but now have ads?
the catch is the new ad daws all have every feature that you want.![]()
But an ad that stops production work is a show stopper.

So like they do nowadays in Adobe Creative Cloud? True the adverts are their own, but how long... zeez I hate those suddenly playing small videos in Photoshop when I try to do real paid work, on top of some palette I have to use - of course.
Soft Knees - Live 12, Diva, Omnisphere, Slate Digital VSX, TDR, Kush Audio, U-He, PA, Valhalla, Fuse, Pulsar AUDIO, NI, OekSound etc. on Win11Pro R7950X & RME AiO Pro

It's like for me when the internet first came into being. You could go online and not be bothered by a gazillion pop-ups. Sure, there were ads, but I go on my phone now and try to read something and EVERYBODY has at least one dumb popup vid box playing an ad or baiting me with a dumb question that looks like a phishing expedition. But that won't go away anytime soon since Google's parent company earned $77 BILLION in ad revenue in Q3. That means quarter folks. That means 3 months. Also sadly, since Alphabet (Google) is allowed the luxury of reporting Youtube ad revenue SEPARATELY, YT made $8 BILLION (in 3 months) Sp, it will just get worse. Reminds me more and more of the Black Mirror episode Fifteen Million Merits.

I wouldn’t use any ads-support daw.
If a standard non subscription license is avaible for a reasonable price (just as things work now), then I’d pay for it, otherwise I’d stick with things I already own and I’d look into opensource in the meantime. Maybe I’d even code things, who knows!
Also, bug free products don’t really exist. Maybe mission critical things are an exception (maybe!), but I won’t hold my breath.
The thing with bugs is… sometimes is just a matter of knowing them and avoid trigger them.
I do maintenance work on a custom made webapp and sometimes bugs require a particular sequence of operations in order to reproduce; if you use the app in the simplest and most linear way, you rarely end up in troubles. Sometimes we have to make fixes to prevent users from doing certain sequences of actions they are not supposed to in the first place…
Bug free, you told me…

I would fork the software code, clone it to my own Forgejo repository and simply remove the advertisements.

Why stop at daws? Why not in speakers and mics? Your song could use a little boost from a randomly inserted McDonalds jingle anyways

I'd get out my Tascam Portastudio 4trk cassette, or buy something like a BOSS multitracker.
It's an awful idea.
