Arturia Pigments 5 out now

That's awesome news! I had put PIGments on the shelf because the CPU demand just didn't justify its use with so many other synths to choose from.
But now after a very quick test on this system I can say the CPU demand is much lower. I have an old test patch that would kill this machine in three seconds with only one note. Now it's running at 35%. (to be fair this is an ancient i5 that runs on coal so the numbers will seem high).
I'm going to test on my studio system and I expect the CPU demand to be equally improved. I've always liked its sequencer and have used it to drive other synths so seeing that it has gotten some impressive updates is great as well. So now I can put Pigments back on my list of synths to use.
Thanks Arturia!

I really hope that they improve the wavetable handling at some point. Even if you have nothing but the factory content and some of their expansions it's just a mess of one-level-deep folders, some with hardly anything in them. Add in user content and it just gets worse, especially if you have any sort of hierarchical file structure. Like, there's a folder view for the samples. Why not do the exact same thing for wavetables? And don't even think about sending a project or preset using your own content to somebody else unless you make your own bank since there's no file embedding and it's very particular about folder naming when it comes to loading things.
Apart from that, great synth. Definitely one of my favorites to program. The CPU improvements are much appreciated and the new sequencer and audio in stuff seems pretty cool.
Also, it appears they added a starting phase offset for the Wavetable oscillator and didn't even bother to mention it??? That's huge, at least to me.

As an owner since Pigments first came out, I have to say I am so impressed with how Arturia has continued to add functionality and features to this synth and provided all of it for free to those who already own the synth. A lot of companies would have split this off to a new paid version at some point, but they just keep ramping up the improvements for us for free. Great product, great company.

Very nice. It's almost there.
I'd use it more if they added release velocity as a mod source, but the added features are welcome additions despite that.
I also think that the VA part is the weakest sounding section. Not really complaining about it though.

and you can load/save sequencer presets separately! Here's my 'short' video about the new version:

With new additions and especially multicore support i like this synth alot.
Now it only needs 60fps mode and less ram use, but i really like it.
Also it doesn't sound sterile, especially with the analog style filters.
Pigments is above whole Arturia V collection

It's the first time I kinda like pigments after watching some videos.
It's one of the most digital and pretty sterile and kinda cold sounding synths imo, but that's its character and it has a lot of great features,
good update, I think.
I don't understand how some people even dare to write Pigments and V Collection in one sentence and compare it.
There's even a thread Pigments vs V Collection here, omg!
Potatoes and coffee are different, too, aren't they?!

I'm aware that most people would not care about this problem, but I have serious troubles really using Pigments in MPE Mode with LinnStrument. The issue is that if you enable MPE, it will assign the Timbre/Slide axis to the first macro knob.
In most presets the change of the first macro knob is quite drastic. With the LinnStrument there's not a lot of space on the Y axis so it's basically impossible to play it completely controlled. It would be so much nicer, if Timbre/Slide were a proper modulation source (like ATouch) and I could assign it myself the way I need it for my instrument and playing style. Or maybe choose how strongly it would affect the Macro knobs.

It's pretty amazing what owners of the original Pigments 1 have gotten for free over the years. Compare that to other developers who charge $75 or more for a minor update.BassMasterK wrote: Wed Jan 24, 2024 1:23 am As an owner since Pigments first came out, I have to say I am so impressed with how Arturia has continued to add functionality and features to this synth and provided all of it for free to those who already own the synth. Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

I wouldnt say they are too different unless you compare to the sampled instruments. But emulations, in the end you can get almost the same sounds as feature wise Pigments has most of them what most of Arturias analog emulations has.DCrown wrote: Wed Jan 24, 2024 5:41 am It's the first time I kinda like pigments after watching some videos.

I was not impressed with Pigments for quite sometime but then it became my main synth together with Diva.
Since then, I haven’t touch several synth including Omnisphere.
Very pleased with the architecture, sound quality, soundbanks and Arturia business model.

Anybody tried the new expansions? They sound pretty good from the audio samples, but they really don't give you much to listen to.

Sounds fine to me. Probably wouldn't even be able to tell an oscillator was from Pigments if I didn't know beforehand.briefcasemanx wrote: Tue Jan 23, 2024 5:44 pm Still no update to the analog sound engine, which has terrible sounding oscillators?
